It feels like these props are still a little much even with the bigger motor. I'll try some more conservative props next. It's interesting to note that these two props both ran about 10mph faster with the new motor/esc combo.

When you get a chance could you run your 1915 with your new motor? You got 59 with it with your old setup. I'm wondering if you will get 10mph more with your new setup

The 1915 and x452 were the first props that I ran because I was wondering the same thing. They both ran in the mid 59 range. That was before I decreased the timing to 0 but my understanding is that lower timing means less power/less heat. I'll probably try those props again sometime but I just haven't had much time lately.

Had a chance to run a couple props this morning. Octura X646 ran 59.1. I just ran it on an up and back pass and then switched to an Octura x455. It ran 66.5mph on 6S (partially discharged batteries) and 47.9 on 4S. Really fast prop but there is some chine walk. So much that I can't do a full pass with this prop. I'm not sure if it's my set-up or that's what's happens when you run to big of a prop. I realize this is a huge prop for this boat. The temps were much lower with this big prop vs the higher pitched/smaller diameter ABC props that I ran yesterday.

66mph very nice arrover. Was there any torque roll with the 455

Yes, lots of torque roll when you get on it a little hard out of the hole. On high speed runs it didn't seem to be leaning over onto it's side but it would start to chine walk as the speed got high. Haven't had a chance to play with the setup or other props yet.

Tonight I ran an ABC 2014. It ran very hot even after only a couple passes and it even hit the lower LVC (I think on the second set of passes). Speed was 60.5. Then I ran a Octura M645 just for fun. Speed was 56.5 and the RPM sounded very high. Then I switched to a CNC 5014 that ran 62.6mph. All of these runs were on the same set of batteries just to get some testing in.

Paul, I ran the ABC 1915 again this morning. It ran much better since I changed the timing to 0 after that initial run. 63.4mph today. Then I ran the x452 on the same batteries and it got up to 63.9. So about 4mph faster with the timing at 0. The water was glass so there may be a couple more mph in these props. Still a lot of chine walk at those speeds. I have not changed my setup yet to try to eliminate it.

I'll have to try the timing at 0. My initial boat went almost 58 bone stock with stock prop and everything but I'm not sure what the timing was on it. Then the next esc that was sent to me had the timing they are all coming with and it slowed to 52mph. I've been running the timing at 15 and maybe that's my issue because this one is even slower.

kfx, I did not play around with the timing on the stock motor so I'm not sure what gains or losses are to be had there. The Leopard 4092 motor seems to like 0 degrees over the other options on the Seaking 180A esc.

I ran an Octura x548 this morning. 55.3mph on glassy water. Low temps and speed so I'll try something more aggressive next.

Tried an Octura X648 this morning and it ran 61.6mph. After a few passes with that I put the x455 back on and it ran 67.8mph on 6S and 48.1mph on 4S. I've run this prop before and had some fairly bad chine walking. Today I put my GPS on the opposite side battery tray from the ESC and the chine walking was decreased enough to do full speed passes. Sometime soon I'm going to run this prop with full batteries because each time I've run it before it has been after I've speed tested another prop.

Ahhh. I was thinking you had the stock motor in it still.

I had to go back 34 posts to see that you are using a 1730kv motor. That's 38,406 unloaded RPM. Have you got any idea what your current draw is?

No, sorry. I don't have any way to measure current draw. Depending on the prop that I'm testing, the current draw must be high based on the heat generated on test passes. The props that cause things to run really hot, I don't run long. Those props haven't been the fastest so far anyway.

Weird run tonight. Made a couple passes and then the OSE HD flex broke. I lost the x455 and the rear of the flex. The front was still secure in the collet. The break was right where the strut nose was separated from the strut body and right about where the flex is soldered onto the solid prop shaft. I tried to secure the strut nose with Loctite 609 retaining compound but that didn't work and I've been running it separated for a few runs now.... That was probably the cause of the broken flex. I've been wiping down, inspecting and relubing the flex after every outing (usually less than a pair of batteries). Anyway, live and learn I guess.

                              broken flex (Medium).JPG
