Back on topic, please. I'm curious to see if this hull can break 100 reliably. So far, this guy has been the only one to take it seriously enough to push it there. I don't think anyone else has hit 80. (if so, cool, I just haven't seen it)


How cool would it be to have a sub $500 boat hit 100?

I don't think i have the fastest cat in the world, i was only making a point. You come on my thread and talk about me like I'm never going to read it. You talk about experience like you have a boat that can beat me. When i run a 100 it was for 3mins and my motor temp was 134 and the esc was 147, can you say that? Now that takes real experience, I'm not pushing my motor or esc to the limit yet. I just want to help the guys that are looking for a good top speed without all this drama.

Building a cat out of wood and racing is something i would never do but then again my first run i did 81 on low batteries. You talk about the records you set but never at what speed. And my boat didn't just sink i just didn't choose to go in for it. A hatch lock is not just to keep your boat from sinking but it keeps the water out. A small drilled hole in your hatch might let a little water in but its nothing compared to half of your tape ripping off. I use a small piece of foam to seal my hatch and no tape. Come on fluid no more hating.

and I fail to see how you aren't part of the drama? Did you also happen to notice how old that video footage is, it's hardly cutting edge and modern anymore. Up until a few years ago ALL FE boats were wood/foam because power systems weren't nearly as powerful and they needed to be light.

You had someone that holds/held many FE records agreeing with you on setup and then you chose to snap on them because he made a comment about not running flotation? Really?

My 2 cents on it, if you have adequate flotation installed correctly your boat will still be floating even if the hatch isn't anywhere near the boat and the hull is full of water. If it won't float full of water IMO you don't have enough flotation in there, period.

Jay's a big boy. He knows all about youngsters and noobs.

Even though sometimes he comes off a bit harsh I do believe it is his experience and education in his field that may sound like he presents things blunt and to the point. Few here, if any, have his experience and time on the water and set up experience...do not even second guess that one.

I think Howard is doing a great job and seems he does not need answers...just kudos for pushing a small cat over the limit....it will come and the boat will probably be in pieces and on the bottom but I am sure he is ready for that...anyone pushing more than 70 is ready for that.

One thing I think we all see is the fact that so many questions are asked over and over and over when there is a great database on this site.

Hey, I made his " ignore list" as well but I feel confident that if you really need something Jay would help. That is the kind of guy he really is. I do think respect works both ways but sometime it is shorter to write something that is dead on and to the point....saves time and brain cells.

I saw Jay leave one site and I would really hate to see him leave this one. He is a valuable resource.

Being the Noob, I'm getting heaps from this thread, I think it's great that all the advice is given and how you guy's are willing to help out, hell it takes all kinds of people to maintain any sport/hobby and I feel that if it wasn't for the experenced guy's offering this advice, I for one would have still been reading from the sideline and thinking I'd like to get into it but never actually putting my hand in my pocket. If the knowledge is witheld to take with you when your gone and there are no noob's, eventully it wouldn't be much of a hobby. Share the experience so the noob's can share the coin$$. Keep up the good work, both of you.

I was thinking about a screw coming up from inside the hull that is nutted on top of the hatch. Using a nylock, knurled nut, or wing nut...

Just install the screw into the hull and drill the hatch to mount, Then install a nut under the hatch where you want the height and sandwich it in place. Double nut the "platform" nut in place or stop threads if threading a rod.

If worried about the nut coming loose, use a body clip to prevent it from spinning. If worried about the screw spinning in place, epoxy the head or drill & pin it to prevent spin.

I'm sure someone is working on making longer cowl locks for this cowl.
