Today I worked on the cross piece that UL-1 Nose cone holds to. This piece really helps strengthen cross section of hull. I will attach it to inside sponsons using epoxy then long stainless steel wood screws

I checked the angles of cross piece using Wixey digital angle gauge. It is best to set up your table saw or band saw using one of these gauges. I had to laminate a strip of 1/8" basswood across front length of piece to make it 2 1/16". I tacked a whole piece of 60 grit paper to mdf setup board to sand front edge round. It follows contour of nose piece pretty good.

Today I rigged the servo and drilled/tapped for hardware.

1mm carbon fiber plate was used to stiffen rear corners. Hobbyking has good prices on carbon fiber, but size is limited.

Happy Thanksgiving! I cannot work on my boat because of it.

Here's my second hobby. My modern HO scale train on wall layout. The HO steam locomotive in picture will soon be released by Athearn. Both of these locomotives have lifelike sound and movement. The steam version also has real smoke effects.

Widening and lengthening hull to 33 1/3" inches (stern to sponson tips) gave me more room for ESC and Lipos. I can move Lipos forward or backward depending on center of gravity.

Here is one possible esc/lipo location. Fit is a tad tight @1 1/8" wider, so I know 1 1/4" wider would be perfect.

After plane is at maximum of 60% rule.

Hull would have been easier (stronger also) to lengthen if I had decided to do so before building, but this will work. Transom is extended back 3" and will be sealed off from rest of hull (better floatation in case of crash). Waiting for epoxy to set. I will add more pictures to this post later.

Plywood was cut using razor knife and straitedge. 1 1/4" wide strip was cut from a sheet of 1/16" plywood then tack glued into place. Cross braces will be tied in using carbon fiber and plywood. Total outside width of hull will be 17".

This hull will be widened slightly over 1 inch. I will cut hull in half down the middle from stern to bow. Then join back together using plywood and bracing. I will also lengthen the hull about 3 inches. fun fun fun

I will probably use the standard Hydra 240 LV.

Nice build, I love Whiplashes! Personally I think you'll be better off with the 1518/1.5D, the 1527 seems like overkill. But if you run both, be sure to post your results!

Keith, your thoughts on having .5Y instead of a 1D motor why?

Because I have more money than I have sense. No seriously I was just wanting to turn more rpm using the smaller and more simple m445 or m545 size props. The boat will be fitted to hold the large 1527, but wether I use it I do not know.
