its funny how all the sudden gps is unreliable when howard shows his top speed. christ guys... when its your gps i bet its right on. nobody wants to believe this guy is getting these speeds. congradulate him already

Nice vid!
If you do use the GPS, you need to bring it in more often so you can take multiple readings. I GPS some of my boats, but I have been GPS-ing cars for a while too. 2 things will consistantly give false readings on a GPS:
1) If it looses satelite signal even for a fraction of a second, the speed will usually jump up
2) In the event of a crash/flip, speed almost always takes a jump up.
This is just my experience. I have gotten some pretty impressive false positives before. After a while, you will just know what to expect, and if its too good to be true, it probably is.
Was there any damage from the flip?
Also, you mentioned your COG was way off. Which way?

Maybe your right, them were the last 3 run of a 1 hour i spent adjusting the weights to get the balance right. The batteries were at 3.71 a cell on them runs. This is only my 1st test run. Give me a little time and you can have a state trooper radar me if you like. This is the new 500 gps, garmin said it 100%.

Since that measurement is based on a acceleration calculation if any one of the 3 axis is moving at a faster rate then say the other 2 axis it uses that one value during its sampling. Since you are running in a narrow straight canal you have the perfect opportunity to see the true speed you are running at. GPS readings will not impress anyone who knows how GPS works. They are subject to far too many variables to trust as a bonafide reading. You need to use a couple friends with stop watches and 2 bouys. Then you will have a reliable measurement method. Its not perfect, but its far more accurate then any handheld GPS unit. I bet you see a difference right away. I know I did once I started using the bouys. The idea is correct with the high rpm, very very fast boats have 40-50000 rpm unloaded. However, the 230 is too big I think, may cook your motor. 90 mph for the HOTR cat is unbelievable, speed counts only when the boat stays on the water. I don't believe speeds when I see boats up in the air and then upside down and then they bring the gps out and showing high speeds, this speed was at the flying moment.
Balance of the boat and glass water are must.
