What did you do to your boat today?

The motor in my Geico was running fine last weekend on the first few runs as long as the boat was moving, temps were int he low 120's on pretty aggressive props. However, the motor would heat soak and the temps spiked quickly as soon as the boat slowed down or stopped. I had an ESC programming issue, so who knows what that was adding in terms of stress, but things will definitely better better after today's project.

I scribed a rectangular patch on the bottom of the last ride pad and then drilled out the four corners with a small bit on my Dremel. I then switched to a small mill bit and opened up the entire hole. Filed it square with a hand file until the water pickup snapped into place. The leading edge sat a little proud of the bottom of the hull so I ran the pick-up across a file laid flat on the work bench until it was flush. Mocked it up in place one last time and JB Welded it into position.

The Geico ran good today, but I got everything squared away except for the ESC. It didn't dawn on me until the third set of batteries that the ESC was set for 3S and I was running 6S. Got it corrected, but by then, the water had gotten pretty rough and I wasn't able to hold it wide open for very long. Had fun and the boat came back in one piece.

Snuck out of work today a few hours early to get some work done before Sunday morning's run. I Sold my Blackjack to REDLINE1 last year and have missed it ever since. His is running so well on the new motor that I bought a Miss Geico to run with him. I shortened the motor wires, soldered on larger bullet connectors, cut the stuffing tube back, and installed a Wohlt wire drive along with an OSE upgraded strut. I need to drill out some of the cooling inlets/outlets, caulk the 90* elbows on the water jacket, and plumb new cooling lines. I plan on just copying my old setup which was good enough for 76mph in REDLINE's boat the first time out, and then tune form there depending on conditions at the lake.

Soldered up my batterys and esc with 6mm bullets. My first 6s run will hopefully be this weekend in my otherwise stock Pro Marine MTR.

Took the Impulse 31 out for its maiden after the winter hull repair. Made it 20s into the run when the flexcable broke right in front of the prop shaft and sent a razor sharp Dasboata prop to the bottom of the lake. I bought the boat with a stock flex cable and was too lazy to buy a wire drive or upgraded flex. Bit me in the ass. Placing an order with with Wohlt's next week.

Sent the tug out with the rescue raft and that was an equal failure. The raft wouldn't let the tug get on plane, as a result, I couldn't steer at all. Roped that back to shore, ripped the raft off, and sent the tug back out with a ball and string in tow. Circled the Impulse a few times, snagged it, and dragged it back. This was the first time the rescue raft got wet, so it was not surprising I was going to need to tweak it.

Last couple of weeks I've been reinforcing the seams on the inside of my Infinity Offshore. It was almost a joke how poorly the two halves were joined together from the factory. I used finishing resin and chopped carbon fiber. It should be good to go now. Just need to install the new motor and ESC.

Coated some new SR6000T receivers in epoxy. No "waterproof reliakote" on any of them.

Few things over the past few days:

- Wet sanded the JetChopper 30 hull with 600 grit
- Built the Chopper a new carrying stand
- Sharpened the M645 prop
- Oiled all motor bearings
- Polished all flex cables to 1500 grit
- Cut 1/4" off the Chopper rudder

Tested out the vac-u-tug and as expected, slow as hell. Ran the new Infinity Offshore for the maiden. It ran really nice in stock trim despite the ESC cutting out. Can't believe how well it self rights without any throttle input. Put the Barbwire XL back on the stock motor and ran a battery through it to make sure all was good before listing it for sale. It did really well. It's all relative, even a day full of slow boats can be fun.

Well a couple of weeks ago one of the Dynamite motors failed miserably in my cat so I just finished installing 2 x HET Typhoon 650-68 1500kv motors for today's racing.
Totally untested, so I've no idea on the props but I'll start with a pair of 4214/3 for the first heat, & go from there.

Weather here today is miserable, so a bathtub test is about as closet as I might get to boating as well. Might glue up my rescue raft though...
