Twin outboard center console build

I thought about a bigger hull but it would have been out of scale. These EP1 outboards are 7" tall. The 250 HP Evinrudes on my real boat are 7 feet tall. So to be scale its going to be 1"=1 foot.

That meant I needed a 30-31" hull to replicate my 30 foot hull. The only thing slightly out of scale is the hight of the freeboard. Its a little low on the model.

But overall I am happy with the turnout. I plan to go into full detail with radar arch, radar, antennas, gauges, upholstery, ect.

I stand corrected, your math works out and I see what you mean about the freeboard. I have a 30" Dumas scarab hull at home also, nice little boat and the freeboard is much higher. Maybe too high, but that does not matter, your build looks great.

I like the graphic, I am going to take that and use it on my hull also once painted.

I put it into my vinyl cutter and ran a row off. I did something wrong as they came out 0.43" tall ( 10.9mm) but they look great. Would 10.9mm still fit or is that too tall? If they fit, PM me your address and I will mail them to you on Monday. Color is white also.

YES! 10.9mm would still work. I could always make the blue stripe a mm or two wider.

I realize you are doing this to get weight balance, but I'd REALLY recommend that you move those ESCs back in the boat, and get those motor wires as short as practical. Having them that long really builds up resistance and generates a lot of heat. You are losing quite a bit of voltage over that length of wire. I think there may be other electrical related, ripple currents, etc., that may come into play as well. Generally a good idea to keep the motor wires shorter.

Yes I I have everything up front for weight. The ESCs have some weight to them too. I just barely got the CG right on this boat.

Even if I did move the ESCs back then I would have to make the battery cables long. After a good 5 minute run I felt everything for heat. The ESCs only slightly warm and I could barely feel any warmth on the cables.

Remember this isn't a full race build where the boat will be going full throttle all the time. This is just to put around the canal and the boat is WAY fast even for that.

I'll keep an eye on things. The easy answer to hot wires is to move to a thicker gauge.

Might be more critical if the motors were Brushless... Really enjoying watching this project.

If the wires dont get more than warm i would just leave 'em alone since your not trying to wring an extra 2mph out of it in a SAW run...............

Hey Ray I could still use those Evinrude logos if you can do it. Your method will probably be better since there are a few colors.

Thought of another scale addition to this build. My business is LED lighting for boats, mainly underwater lights. I have them on the real Scarab so why not the model?

Make-a-Wake....I got the motor cases and gears yesterday. Thanks a million. Definitely two sets of usable gears there. I see what you mean how that one shaft is stuck. I'll get it out, nothing a dremmel can't fix. LOL

OK I was all set to make a good video. But something was wrong with the boat and it wasn't getting anywhere near the speed that is should have. Either the batteries didn't take a full charge or I packed the gearcases with too much grease. The props did feel tight when turning them by hand but I'm so paranoid that I'll blow the gears that I packed the gearcases super tight with grease.

You'll also hear my idiot buddy trying to use the zoom, he's stuck in the 80s and the only modern equipment he can use is a cell phone and thats even questionable. Then again I'm not much better, took me almost 3 hours to figure out how to get the video from my camera to the computer then to youtube.

I'll get another video once I work out the problems, until then here is a sample.

Please remove or edit video, at least the second one. If I EVER have to watch another video from you were it starts and ends with your butt shot, I will vote to have you banned At least tape a picture of a ladies rear over yours! I think that is in the rules somewhere, small print, towards the rear or bottom.....


OK seriously, other than the butt shot, that looks great! Get the decals done and the tower, you will have a really nice scale boat there that will be really cool to run. I gotta say good job on this one. Looks good at slow speed also the way it sits.

Yeah thats my not tech savvy friend. He's all over the place with the camera and adding his stupid commentary. LOL

I'll throw the boat in my canal later this week and film from a tripod. Lets see how that works, at least the camera won't be filming my aZz.
