i have built 4 jae's and spoken with rod on several occasions. he guarantees that it doesnt matter where the prop in relation to the trandsom, it is the height that matters...

heres my jae21 with my custom hardware, motormount, servo mount, boom clamps ( double id so no drilling and pinning) and cooler, i also added some visual aesthetics to the hull.

Sponsons are done!
Knowing now that a bit of extra weight isn't an issue, I did something a little different with these.
I noticed on mine that the maple dowels for the turn fin had moved just enough to notice it in the finish.
So........... I cut a strip of foam out above the dowels and epoxied a piece of 1/8 X 1/8 " spruce the width of the foam to the top of dowels.
Also, before I epoxied the sides of the sponsons to the foam I drilled a hole in the foam above the brass tubes. After the sides were on I packed epoxy around the brass tubes through the hole to help secure them a bit better.
Next: Sealing begins, build the skis and servo mounts!

Hey Doug, I got a chance to run the JAE hard in some very rough water last weekend just to see how she would handle it. Much rougher than anything I have ever raced in. I had the sponsons bouncing hard in the air when I opened it up all the way and even ended up cartwheeling her. I was using a 40C 5000 pack. Two observations. First, I was using the original hollow booms and didnt break one. I did have the boom clamp tight against the tub without the use of nylon washers. I was wondering if possibly that was the reason my booms didnt break. Also, I have come to notice how flexible the turn fin is. It also has bent slightly along the seam where it screws into the sponsons. I take it a more rigid turn fin is a good thing? I had to scratch going to the Greensboro race this weekend but asked a friend to ask Dick Tyndall (who is known making some nice turn fins) if he has or plans to make a fin for the JAE.
