Im just at the stage were I need to fit a black UL-1 turn fin and ul-1 bracket to my Popeye, I have took note of post 219 and ready to add a shim to get the 90
question might sound silly, but what way round does the ul-1 bracket fit the heel, looks like the blade can fit the bracket two different ways, either using the three bolts to fit the heel or the other way round and only two bolts fit the heel. each way i can still fit the blade to the bracket but not sure about any adjustments after fitting, from looking at the turn fin that comes on the pre-built boats it has three bolts on the heel, but is the ul-1 bracket different fit.hope this makes sence to someone, without a picture.
Thanks,Jay thats the way i have it now, but it just looks a bit week looking on the popeyes big heel, and only two bolts fixing it. is there anyway to strenghten the bracket mounting? or will it be ok. just feel it will rip the heel off once in the water, as the brackets not covering much surface area and being a heavy 6s setup
I ordered one too just too see and I must say having seen pictures of Chris' Popeye I like how it looks. It is stronger no doubt.
Reason I didn't end up using was simple, I added a G-10 doubler in addition to the stock doubler, and before I was "forced" to use the shim, I tried to bend the UL-1 bracket ( not on the boat) without any sucess thus concluding it is strong enough for me. The Kintec piece has a longer lateral mounting arm thus requiring a longer and thicker shim to achieve the 90* goal.
Hey Chris gonna be leaving Port Charlotte in morning heading home ,can I swing buy and pick that stuff back up tommo during day....Thx again for programming everything for me.... Jeff
I am using the upgraded Kintec mount too Tim, so I will need a thicker shim then the one you posted in post #219? Thx Jeff
I think at least you need to make a longer shim, as long as the mounting arm. That whole arm has to seat well on the surface of the heel, the shim should be the whole area of the arm, if you know what I mean. To get the same angle, it might have to be a bit thicker. I don't have the boat in front of me at the moment. One thing is for sure, you need to add a doubler inside and make it strong. That Kintec arm has three holes make sure the entire area has the doubler inside.
Just my $.02.

Call me when you're headed this way and I'll meet you at the house, My shop is only about a mile from the house.
Ok Chris will do,prolly going to be around 1 before I get up there... I just went back and looked at that post Tim, and hadn't noticed you had reinforced the inside as well. Was paying attention to the shim pics. I had mounted the new Kintec bracket already but took it off before I dropped the hull off to be painted. So I will make a plate for inside and do the same as you have. Thx Jeff
