Got all my hardware in for my Popeye today was ready to start build but decided over weekend to have hull painted and airbrushed by a local guy here so wont get it back till Friday. Question for anyone to answer is I bought the programming box for my Swordfish ESC can I program the ESC on the bench without it being mounted in boat? Thx Jeff

Yes you can just hook the motor, reciever, and battery to it just like it would be if it was in the boat. then you can set your throttle travel and program the ESC. Read the instructions in the manual. Also when you put the rudder on the transom, mount it as far from the strut as you can get it on that mounting pad. Mine came already mounted and when I put the dual pickup rudder on it I had problems with prop clearance and prop wash deflection so I had to move mine over.

Yes I had read in this thread about you having that problem. Obviously strut goes in center, so put rudder further to the right then yours is in this pic?
Also are those UL-1 fins on the back of your boat? Thx Jeff

And I got that y547 S/B prop from OSE just now. This prop is HUGE compared to props I used on my UL-1!!

Yes I'm pretty sure that pic was before I moved it. There's a bump on the transom, put it right to the edge of the bump and even with the top of the deck. Yes those are UL-1 fins.

That prop's not big, you should see the props I run on my 1/8 scale Sport Hydro 55 to 62mm those are big!

So over to the right edge and up to top? Top of rudder bracket even with top of transom? Those fins help in cornering or whats their advantage?

You should have a look at Chris' boat if you get a chance , I believe it is important that you still mount the rudder on that bump, because the transom is tapered ( or slanted) , this bump compensates for that slant. I may be wrong, but worth to double check!

Another thing, the "heel" where you mount the turn fin bracket is angled, see post #219, I shimmed the bracket so it is 90*. I did not bend the bracket, since I feel that was more difficult.

Correct, you can look at mine tomorrow when you're here. I don't think there's any advantage to those fins but they look cool

Tim or anyone does it matter what the thickness of that shim for the turn fin in post #219 is? Or just as long as it sets the bracket at the correct 90degree angle? How do I check that I have it at the 90 degree angle once its on the hull? Thx Jeff

I just eye balled it, it takes several tries. As you have realized, the thickness is not the crucial thing as long as it is 90* to the heel, put it in another way: the blade has to be parallel to an imaginary line that is running trued thru the center of the hull.
