That doesn't fix the problem...you would just be running the boat with more "drag" caused by the bent turn fin.

Thx Doby can def see a difference. Can I straighten mine or just need to order a new one? Page 8 of this thread post 219 is where Chris and Tim are showing the shim that was installed supposedly for this problem.

SloHD, Its not ideal, basically just means there is a problem else where than rudder alignment.

Jlov- I think you will be pleasantly surprised if you straighten that turn fin, it looks twisted / bent, that will steer the boat for sure. Alligator probably bent it lol.

I would just remove it and straighten it....a shim is not going to fix your bent fin...

Ok will straighten it. But I'm going to order the black UL-1 fin from Kintecracing. They are a little thicker. I'm also going to lengthen strut hole like you did Doby and try running it a little higher tommo.

Your fin is deffinetly bent, you can see it plain as day in the third picture. I'm with Doby, just straighten it and you'll probly solve the problem.

I have a shim and it is to offset the angle of the sponson heel so the turn fin runs parallel to the centerline of the hull. I had it CORRECT and did not have to bent the bracket or the fin. It is no use to bend the fin to compensate for the inadequate off setting in the first place. Your bracket has a longer mounting arm so it was harder for you to shim it correctly, I ditched this bracket for this very reason.
I don't think you have anything to worry about, looks good( your bracket), just straighten the flat part of the fin and see from there how it goes.

I'm def going to order that 2mm UL-1 fin from Kintec. I was able to bend this fin straight by hand without even removing it. It seems to be very flimsy. It only measures 1.25mm thick. But I believe I got it straight enough for now tho.

If you support the inside of the tub wall with aluminum in the area near the tail end of the blade you can rig up a long piece of threaded rod to use as a turn fin tuner. It also acts as a brace to stop flexing and bending of the turn fin.

I have no picture because I haven't done it yet. Others do it, specially for racing so you can dial in the hull so it tracks perfectly straight.

Yes I noticed that in the pic Doby posted of his Popeye. I will definitely do that this coming weekend.
Doby can you post a pic of outside of turn fin so I can see where you put the long support screw thru the outside of the turn fin. It look like it just goes thru the fin itself and not the bracket but hard to see in those two pics. Also what did you use to put the screw thru the hull? Is it just siliconed where support screw goes thru hull? Rubber grommet? Thx Jeff

Thx Doby. I ordered the thicker 2mm UL-1 fin but will add the fin brace like you have. Question tho,if the long screw is supposed to stop turn fin from flexing wouldn't the screw need to be towards bottom of fin to stop any flexing rather then at top of fin where it meets the turn fin bracket like it is in your pic? Thx Jeff

Mines there to help support the fin mounting bracket, the fin is plenty tough.

I have the thicker turn fin mount. It's about twice as thick as yours. Would I still need to do this mod with the thicker bracket? Thx Jeff
