Ok guys so i have hit a road block in my build right now!! So i am trying to put in a cf plate and it seems that the shape in the interior is different than the exterior shape. In the pic above the template on the right is the interior template and the one on the right is the exterior one. Is something wrong or am i just making the template wrong?
Sometimes it takes many tries to get the right shape, I reinforced my H&M Intruder S and I use hard paper to cut out the forms many time till they fit.DSCN7168.jpg DSCN7182.jpg DSCN7180.jpg It is not unusual for the shape to be different, usually what you see outside would be bigger since the thickness of the hull has to be considered. On the other hand, it can be opposite if the hull tapers drastically towards the transom. Important thing to remember is that if you mount your hardware low, then make sure the lower part of your plate ( doubler) touches the floor because you want the lower bolts to take advantage of the plate, same goes to the higher position bolts. In a nutshell, it doesn't have to fit 100%, but pay attention to where you bolt your hardware and this area should be covered by the plate.
I personally would prefer not to resort to pouring epoxy onto the transom without some kind of mix. Epoxy has its limits when it comes to structural bearing , you need to mix with milled epoxy such as this http://www.offshoreelectrics.com/pro...od=dh-GPMR6165 to increase the STRUCTURAL integrity. WEST system's high density filler is another good one for this kind of usage.

I just mix with cut up cf... I would definatley not use bondo.. I made a couple real nice alluiminum plates but ended up ditching them in the end.. With an inch thick of the same material the boat is made of I'm sure it will hold together at least I hope

what other epoxy would you suggest? I want to get west systems but its not worth the price for how much i would use.

I don't mean to hi jack, mounting it low means if your strut and rudder bracket are mounted close to the floor (bottom) when viewed from the back of the boat. Then I would make sure my doubler touches the floor because the lower bolts have to go thru the plate, if there is a gap, sometimes it can't be avoided, that means one set of bolts will go thru the gap then I flood the gap with aforementioned MIXED epoxy to the same level as the plate so the surface is as level as possible inside the transom.
I agree with Chris, I prefer West System, and I use their high density adheresive filler to increase its structural integrity.

Your plate is not going to have sharp corners. Round them off, it'll fit. You have to match the inside shape..... flashlight....got one?

This has got to be the worst part of the build had to use a mirror and flashlight to get the top nuts and washers on

Yup, did that SEVERAL times last night trying to fit and mock up my rudder servo.
I have this little thing which does help, especially grabbing the washer: http://www.micromark.com/gripster-ho...tool,6734.html

Proper hopper used a Lazer line. It should be in the tips/tricks on Keith's board

Hey guys so i stopped by at ace hardware and got some screws to mount the strut. I was told to get thicker and longer screws so i did but i am not sure if these will work because of the length an i feel that they might be alittle to wide? Im not sure if the pic helps much so if you have any questions let me know!1 Thanks

That's similar to the bolts I got for mine, they are fine. Just drill the holes bigger in your strut and hull.
