I looked around here and actually found a piece of 3/8 stainless tube.

I'm guessing it's stainless, I've had it for years now and it has not rusted... It will still take a brass liner, I wont use teflon in it.

Yeppers. 9s 2p most of the time. It's easier to drive than 10s 2p.

Why don't you mount the esc on top of the motor....?

I could, alot of folks do. I just never have done it that way. If I'm not going to put batteries outside the rails, the speedy can go there without having to fab a mount for it. Another way I look at it too is I keep the motor and ESC separated for better heat dissipation. Most electronic devices are engineered to keep heat generating components apart from each other.

I was able to spend some time working on this today.
With two sided tape you can "stick" all your hardware in place on the transom and check your configuration before you drill. I've done this for a while now and I saw Bill post using it also. Very handy...

I masked off the transom and layed it out, then traced around the hardware. I use the taped hardware itself for a "drill guide" This works well, and all you bolts fit when your done. Every time I drill a hole I put a bolt in to hold the piece of hardware in place, and drill the next hole.

In a boat with rails you want to make sure your bolts miss the rails. I try to lineup the rudder extension with the rail inside for added strength. I also was trying to keep the rudder push rod straight, and run it close to the rail to give battery clearance.

So far so good.
