OK guys, here's the latest. Hobbyking is selling the boat for $219.99. That's less than MY cost with shipping. I will NOT be carrying this boat. If you want one, order it from them.
At $40 shipping, my cost would be MORE than the $219.99.
HOWEVER, The manufacturer has cut off Hobbyking because of their low price. They will NOT sell to them. In the meantime, somebody else in the states has jumped on this boat, kinda cutting in front of me. I'm not into 'boat wars' if you will. I'll just sit back and watch for now.
They care because if the retail price is too low, dealers can not make enough profit to justify the expense of stocking the boats in their inventory so they stop ordering from the manufacturer!
You will just have to wait to see who is selling it. I'm sure it will be announced somewhere on OSE when they are ready.
Jim, you said you get them at 192? plus 40? 232.00 is what it takes to get it to your door? Thats still cheaper then Hobbycity.???? 219, plus 40 or 65 depending on what way I d want to go. So no, you yourself arent going to get rich off them, but you can deal to people in the states anf for a few pennies less than HC. I know you have to deal w/ all your inventory, and sitting merchandise is like putting cash on the table you cant use, but it sounds as if some sales are out there. I would think a lot of people would rather deal from you than overseas.
why does a manufacturer care what the distributer sells them for? They still get their money either way right? Who will be selling them then?
Same reason Rolex and other companies dont want their stuff price cut to nothing. No dealers would want to sell it. If only one company wants to sell it, the distributor only has one distribution source, in this case Hobby King. Its impossible for one retailer to have the same amount of sales as a world of dealer network.
Its the same reason AquaCraft sells to dealers. AquaCraft OWNED by Tower Hobbies. Tower can say tomorrow that they don't want to sell to dealers. How would that work out?

Lets break this down a bit.
Jim's cost is $232 and the cost from Hobby City is $259. And you want Jim to sell for a few pennies less than Hobby City. So say Jim sells them for the same cost of $259.00 and makes $27.00. Now take into consideration that the credit card company charges Jim approximately 2% on internet transactions. That's about $13.00 from the $27.00. Do you still think its worth selling them for $13.00?
What happens when one comes in damaged? How many boats does it take you to sell to make up the cost of one damaged boat?
I have a damaged Genesis sitting in my shop, anyone want to buy it for $200? I doubt it.
Just thoughts My bad.. I will not post about it anymore
Please dont take it that I'm mad or trying to bash you. I'm just trying to inform you a bit more on what goes into us pricing something for 30% more or so than it cost us.
Nah Im sorry, I understand. I would pay the same price to get it from Jim as I would HC. I see it as supporting a US dealer. Just my opinion. And Anyone, you me or Jim can recieve a damged boat. Thats part of the game. It happens. Im sure if Jim received a bad hull, his supplier would resolve the issue. I cant believe that of all the things he sells now, hes never had a problem w/ one. I know first hand from a member that he has.. and it was settled.
Oh well, all Im saying is, Jim, if you had them, Id get one from you.
how much would you sell it for, if you do want to? How bad is the damage?
It was really a joke on the selling of it. But the transom screws are all ripped out and the stuffing tube needs replacing. I would have to get $200 for it.
But I'm probably going to keep it and test it this weekend.
