I set up a Southampton Tug for rescue and now I'm repowering it with, Dual 2650kv 28mm brushless outrunners 50amp ESCs on 2s Lipos. I may have the only Southampton that will get on plane!!
I had a set of EDFs that I was going to build a rescue boat out of, that's where I got the outrunners from for the Southampton.

Kayaks are not allowed in the lake here, so much for the moron theory. Fishing rods, electric RC boats only option, RC boat easy to carry in small car and hike over to lake with.

I have a MEGATECH H2O ELITE that has been modified. The stern has a tongue depressor sticking out the back and I tow a crappie jig behind it. Just circle around the boat in distress, eventually the jig will catch something, and tow it back to shore. The H2O ELITE was my very first boat and hated to get rid of it, found a new use for it!!! Thinking about adding one of those LED police car light racks to it this winter!!!!!!

I like this.Originally posted by Rocstar22 View Post1300kv Outrunner on 2s2p with 45mm plastic prop. Does not work well if your boat is nose up.

Will make one on mt holidays next. Would like to use a outboard motor though . Is there cheap outboards about???
Cheers

I did a little work on the Southie recently.
1) Thanks to the tires provided by Johnnysplits, I was able to enhance my "apron bumper" and add tires to the stern:

2) I replaced my two cheapie ESCs with a Sabertooth 2x12 RC robot two-motor controller. This ESC has an option for onboard tank steering. It also enables me to run 3S 2P LiFePO4 cells giving me nominally 9.9 V and 2.1 Ahr of capacity. I haven't been able to take the tug to the lake yet, but I did test her out in the tub. The Southie seems to have picked up considerable speed, so far as I could tell. When I held her stationary and opened the throttle, she pulled very strongly and kicked up some pretty good waves.
3) I finished the version of my recovery line.
I look forward to seeing what she can do in open water and if she is able to use the line to effect rescues.

I fish on a regular basis so naturally I use my fishing rod with a nice heavy lure to hook my boat. I also be sure not to drive my boat out of casting distance along the shoreline; it has never failed me even when I sank my boat. Just my 2 cents.

I'd recommend something like ski bindings to keep them on each foot
