It's ok to have the gap between the drive dog and the strut when the boat is sitting still. No water will leak in. When you hit the throttle you want the drive dog to mash up against the strut.

I never had any problems with the gap while the boat was sitting(it was completely dry) It is when you are moving that the water problem discussed in this thread happens.

The two piece cable needs to be adjusted close to the strut to close the gap as the cable will not pull it tight. The one piece cable/shaft will pull itself snug up against the strut under load as the cable shrinks.

If you have the two piece cable & prop shaft with square ends in the strut, then it needs to be snug from the get go.

I've had to "trim" a few flat spots in shafts to put the set screws where I wanted them. Haven't had any issues, except rust. But they rust anyway. I try to keep them coated with oil to reduce it.

There is a groove in the drive shaft for the set screw of the drive dog.
you can not slide the drive dog up the shaft because of the groove.
so should we grind the groove in the shaft to allow the drive dog to be adjusted?

Adjust the Prop Dog, by loosening the set screw and pulling the shaft all the way out, then re-tightening the set screw. Careful, they strip easy.

I was wondering this myself larger washer maybe or grind the groove in the drive shaft back so that the drive dog can sit snug.

I am a bit confused how to keep the drive dog against the strut? the cable moves in and out but how to keep in?

Use the heat shrink that has glue in it.

Anybody have a good way to keep heat shrink in place on a stuffing tube, etc? Mine always comes loose. CA doesn't seem to hold it long either.

So, back from the weekend. I ran the boat with the changes made as pictured above (shrink wrap and ensuring the drive dog pushes up against the strut) and basically the problem is solved! A very tiny amount of water in the hull after a full run. I am declaring this mystery solved. Works great. The boat continues to amaze me on how well it handles in turns and how stable it is. Next time I am going to use it to race some SV27's my brother and brother in-law have. I think it will do well. I did notice the motor was pretty warm after the run, but the esc was fine.

I was just thinking the same thing! Good idea! The heat shrink on the bottom is cool too. Color matches the boat! Haha. I know the boats don't come that way.

Just checking, wasn't sure if they came up with a new way that I didn't see in the photos...
If you can get a nylon bolt in there somewhere to make it break away, it might save the back of the hull in case of a turtle strike. I ran out of nylon bolts and ended up tearing out the back of the hull on my 32" cat.

its actually tmaxx cvd boots haha but yea i did add it there seems to work really good.

Yea i think i am going to do the same! I need to get all my boats running right before i mod a perfectly good one!
