Too bad.. aint him anymore either...
Had a thought. This might be a bit wordy, but here goes.... Yesterday, I ran a test on a prop, maybe 1 minute, came in, did some things, re-peaked the batts, went back out and ran it again for a minute, came back in and re-peaked. Then hit the water again. That was in the am. I then repeaked them again. Then later in the day, I put the peaked batts from earlier back on the charge and re-peaked them. Took less than 5 minutes each, then ran it again. Did I re-peak too many times yesterday and since I was only putting less than a volt back into them, was this short charging not maybe warming them up enough or something and thats why I couldnt hit the speeds I had before. I guess what Im trying to explain is, if a 2S is taken down to say 7 volts. And you charge it up and run it. Because it was on the charger longer than if you only ran that 2S down to say 7.8 volts and re peaked that, will it run better having charged longer maybe because it has warmed up a bit more on the charger? I know the max voltage when Im done charging, according to the charger is ... what is it.. 8.6 or 8.4 or something? And lets call it 8.4 is 8.4. But I remember in my car racing days, a freshly peaked and warmed NIMH ran better than a NIMH that had been peaked 2 hours prior and had time to cool. Im just trying to put all my reasons in a basket as to why I couldnt get her over 40 yesterday on the same prop I ran 2 seperate runs with a day before at .5 and .4mph faster...

Try heating them with your car's heater and check the results. I've heard that lipos work better when pre-heated. But the speed difference could also be from the GPS, water conditions, wind, etc.Government Moto:

I preheat my batteries every time to around 100 deg. in a little Coleman heater/cooler box. It absolutly makes a huge difference in my SAW boat . I will see a 5-7 mph change in hot batteries verses cold.PT-45, 109mph, finally gave up after last bad crash
H&M 1/8 Miss Bud 73 mph
Chris Craft 16 mph

Excellent! Im certainly going to try this out! Hopefully I will have some new speed later today...Originally posted by Gary View PostI preheat my batteries every time to around 100 deg. in a little Coleman heater/cooler box. Well I tested things out and had a hell of a scare. I thought I was done for a bit.
I did not re-peak the batteries this am after yesterdays 30 second run. I did warm them to about 100-105F Put them in the boat and down to the lake I went. The far end had a bit of wind ripple on it and I decided to go there. Powered things up and off I went. Decided rather than running one lap and checking the GPS, Id run it a couple minutes and bring it in. Things looked great, trim is beautiful, no bouncing at all. Decided Id take it for a 100% throttle turn around and she did it flawless.
Then I just ran som passes and thought, "one or two more and Im going to bring her in." This is about after maybe a minute 30 or 2 min of run time. I passed myself, made my right turn out into the depths of the lake and she went dead. Shut down in an instant. I looked at my radio, tried moving things (throttle, steering) and could see nor hear anything. I ran faster than I have run in a year back to the house to grab the rescue rig. Within 5 minutes of the shutdown I had her in my hands. Picking the boat up out of the water, I felt no heat on the hull. I opened her up, no funny smells, hit my temp sensor on all components, Motor 104, ESC 102 Batts 107. Unplugged everything and plugged it back in a powered it up and no arming beeps, but I had steering. I came back into the house and started inspecting things. Everything looked intact. I switched Ch 1 and 2 thinking maybe my RX took a dump, nope, still no throttle. I grabbed the bullets on the motor wires and the white one felt funny. I pulled on it and the wire came out of the bullet on the motor side. I tugged on the other two and the blue one, with little force, also popped out. What the hell??? I cut the shrink wrap off, resoldered them and re-shrink wrapped and now everything is fine.
A week or so back on the 642, I got the motor up to like 170 or something ridiculous. Could I have melted the solder enough on that run that it backed the wires out a bit and now one decided to let go? Or does PB not do a great job on soldering some of thier components. I noticed even from day one that my wires never came straight ot of the bullets. They had a pretty good angle on them. Maybe PB didnt install the wire into the Bullet, just tacked it on the end? After I re-soldered them, they now go into the bullets and come out nice and straight.
Anyone else ever have this happen on a Proboat BJ26 motor???
Oh and a 40.2... Again, on not fresh batts, but with the 442 detongued a bit more.....

More testing yesterday and today. I went back to the 642 for the heck of it. I detongued a bit, thinned a bit and spent a good part of the day yesterday and all morning trying to dial it in. 39.8 was all she would push. With a straight prop swap to the 442, no strut adjustments, it was back to 40.4. I tried adjusting the strut a bit, but never got any better.
Then today a lil package showed up. I ran it w/ 2-2S Turnigys, 5000mah 30-40C. X642 showed me a 40.6. X442 ran a 41.5. Batteries, I think, are now my only way to get her faster. It seems like prop wise, ESC and Motor on 4S, Im convinced Im maxed out. I think Ive found my sweet spot, height and angle, on the strut as well as an optimal c.o.g. Tomorrow she is going on 5S as Im going to follow Doms suggestion and run the BEC from one of my Gas boat packs.
I shall let you know what happens.....

Its getting there. It is a blast to run. Now I got the speed bug... Etti 150, Neu 1515 1Y?????Originally posted by domwilson View PostCongrats on the speed increases. I bet it's funner to drive then it was when you first got the boat. Are you going to put the BJ26 back together?
Oh yeah, that would take money....
Black jack has been back together on the Imex components. Its a very low 30s boat. Yet still fun to drive. Ive got it handling much better than stock, still running stock drive hrdwr. Someday, when I upgrade the Imex cat to really fly, the BJ ESC and Mot will go back into her. Or I dunno, I may sell it to build a little bit larger twin cat.
But who knows when that would be...
Getting ready to go do my 5S run. Got my reciver pack in last night. Disconnected the red power lead from the esc.. Shes about ready to fly. Will let you know asap.

I know, its no vid.. but I will not run this one handed while viewing it in the camera... I will get the wife or a friend to film it very soon. Its on the edge of blowing over if it hits the slightest ripple... and crossing its own wake is asking for acrobatics.... 5S did a bit more than I thought it would. This was on a 442.
Now I have a boat Im very proud of.

A very interesting thread. One suggestion shorten the wire connections between the ESC and the motor.
