No just cleaned up w/ a wire wheel on a dremel to knock off the factory finish Its a satin finish now, not polished or sanded at all.

Cool, thats kinda what I was thinking about the tongue. I will PM egneg...Originally posted by domwilson View PostLooks good to me. Not too aggressive. you're at the point of experimenting now. Maybe just a hair more on the tongue. But before you proceed, see what egneg thinks.

Some say the polishing helps some say it doesn't. Split the difference and polish the faces of the blades. I must say, you're getting pretty good at this fine tuning. You've gotten 10 more mph for only $13.00!!!Originally posted by tiqueman View PostNo just cleaned up w/ a wire wheel on a dremel to knock off the factory finish Its a satin finish now, not polished or sanded at all.Government Moto:

Thanks Dom. Its getting there. Ive got about 3.5mph with tuning. The 30mph was the BJ hull with the Imex motor and esc on 3S. The Imex cat hull on 4S witht the BJ motor and esc started at 37.7 or somewhere there within. Its getting there though.. one step at a time. I wish it was 10mph though... then Id be staring 50 in the face!!!
EDIT: I want to start applying the mods to the x442 today. That way Im working on the prop that has done best so far.

The 3S pack that came w/ the Imex boat is a 4500mah... have no idea what the "C" rating is. And, for that matter, I couldnt even be positive that the 3S is even 4500... its only what the LHS was told. It has no identification on it.Originally posted by domwilson View PostSorry. I was thinking back to when you first started on the stock setup on 3s. What is the mah rating on that 3s pack and your 2s packs? Are they the same "C" rating?
The 2S packs are 5000mah, 20C that I got from my LHS.... these http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXTXG3

I was wondering if your ESC can handle 5S? If so, for a short run, you could put a 3s and a 2s in there to see what kind of speeds you would get. But being that your situation is the same as mine, maybe not. Keep working on that prop. I think it would give you a little more speed.Government Moto:

Yeah I tried that. See post #13. I dont want to do it again until I get an external BEC. Extra voltage certainly will help, but for now Im seeing what I can continue to accomplish on 4S.Originally posted by domwilson View PostI was wondering if your ESC can handle 5S? I worked on the 442. I cleaned it up a bit more, being sure that there were no abrupt angles on the leading edge. Basically just smoothed things out a bit. Then took the dremel with the wire wheel and went over the entire prop. I put the strut back to the marks I made on it where the 442 ran a 40.5. Best she pushed was a 39.9, freshly peaked batts. COG was at the same point. Not sure what to think.
From my notes on my 40.5 and 40.4 runs, the only difference I can see was today there is not even a ripple on the water. When I had those higher mph runs, there was a very small wind ripple across the lake here and there.

I thought about that. But they are heavy, so I just brushed the idea off. Plus, Im not sure if running a 5000 20 C with a 4500 ?C is a good idea???? I want to get some Turnigys in the near future. Then I will probably focus more on 5S. I may even wait until I can replace the ESC.. but Ive heard with a BEC added, the Proboat ESC's are handling it.

Hi Scott,
The X640 you worked is very close and you are smart to take a little off at a time. I would remove a bit more of the tongue and make sure the trailing edge is 90 degrees from the blade and is flat with sharp corners. Easily done with a smooth cut file. As far as the finish goes I usually stop at 400 grit unless the customer wants it polished. I have included a picture to give you an idea about the tongue and trailing edge.Attached FilesIMPBA 20481S D-12

Perfect Chuck! Thank you! As I said, Ive been messing w/ the 640, just in case I messed it up. The 442 seems to be the ticket for top end. This being said, is there a chance if I detongue the 442 it will slow it down, or does a detongue, when done correctly always improve rpm? My "out of the hole" is incredible as is my coming out of a turn. So Im not worried at all if I lose some hole shot, I just dont want to lose top end.

Too late! I just finished working the 442 a bit. I thinned it a little and slightly detongued (about how I did the 640) I also cleaned up the trailing edges and made sure they were square as Chuck mentioned w/ sharp corners. I hope it works well.
Im not sure whats going on. I ran the boat on two seperate occasions this evening, both runs on the 442 the way it was when I got a 40.5 and a 40.4. Tonight, 39.9 is all she would do. I had it all EXACTLY the way it was set up when I ran those 2 runs a couple days ago. I dont get it... maybe my batteries are crapping out a bit??? But both runs tonight, on separate charges ran a 39.9 I tried slight tweaking of the strut as well and never got any better. Oh well, tomorrow is another day. Hopefully the am on the newly worked 442 will bring a smile back to my face.
