Lynx (bobkat's evil "twin")

Hi all,
I have finally started my next project I call it the Lynx ("Evil Twin") so named as it is a little more of everything as compared to my Bobkat Project, Two motors, 2 batteries (if they fit), and two esc's, I have the motors, the struts, stub shafts, batteries, and I have even started building the hardware. So I think I am off to a pretty good start, still need a servo and props and .130 flex cable right lay and left lay, does anyone out there know where a guy can buy just the cable?

Peter, that is just darn rude to say "I am doing a twin" and NOT specify the power systems.

What have you got there ?

Flag the flex and go with wire, it is easier and cheaper, unless you already have the stubs and motor couplers.

2-30 amp ESC's (ebay) yellow or blue wrapper there are ones which have bullett connectors and a deans plug already installed
I already have the stubs so wire isn't an option at this point

Lynx layout of equipment

Hi all,
Simon was accusing me of being rather selfish so here is a sneak peek of the equipment layout, if you look you can see the C.F. I am using for the motor mounts just behind the motors I have not cut the holes out yet but I will after the lower sponsons are covered, then I can get an Rough alignment for the motor shafts for height then I will start drilling away!!!

I really like the tapered transom compared to the rounded version that I have, it looks much easier to build and keep proper shape. It looks as if your steps will be more like mine, that is they are really only half a step cut diagnially, where they become flush at the edge of the boat. having that wood go continuiously down the side makes for a nice even transition up to the bow, a mistake I made by gluing the skin on before the skin support was installed. It looks like a good layout. You should try out those batteries in my boat to see how they fit, and run lol. You may want to position them more toward the front, even with them angled like we talked about, because you see how close mine are and the .130 cable is pretty thick for the size boat and the bend. I'm afraid mine are going to cause problems. There should be more then plenty of right and left lay cable in the stuff I left with you. I think I put it in a bag and labled it.

Keep in mind that when you drill the holes on the motor mounts that the holes are a different pattern depending on how you turn the motor. since your wires are going to point to the center, the motor mounts can't have mirrored motor mount holes, you will have to drill the center hole, mark your mount holes for one, then rotate the mount 90 degress from the first motor mount holes and then mark your holes. If you measure the distance of the holes on the motor you will know what I am talking about. Be carefull drilling that CF, it drills really really easy, its best to use my dremel with my quick change collet for more control, or a press if available. I know you can figure it out just fine, just wanted to warn you about how quick the bit will dig thought the CF.

Hey Cornelp , did you ever figure out the USA website for Hydro and Marine I cant read German and I do not know which cable to order from them as their nomenclature is new to me I can't tell which cable is .130

Unfortunately I thought I've seen it but I was wrong... the MHZ USA site is similar, that's what I remember...
The .130 (1/8") is the 3.2mm. There are two types: einzeln (single) and eninzeln links (single left), both 500mm.
I do not know why they still show mm, when it is clearly converted from inches... 3.2mm is not such a round figure...
I only know a few words in german, but Google translation is pretty decent

Why don't you go for wire? Much easier to find... I manufactured all parts for my cat and seems to be easier to manage than flex (not to mention much cheaper)....

Sponson lowers and steps

Good Morning all,
Well I have placed the steps and covered the lower sponsons,
There is a side photo showing where I had to add extra material so I would be able to cut the step out on the side (you save the 1/8" ply stringer template for the sponsons and use the step layout for drawing the steps on the out side) then cut them out,
You will notice the masking tape, it works great for gluing these odd shaped pieces which require about a hundred clamps, I just keep the pieces extra wide and this allows the wood to be pulled down rather nicely into place, plus it takes the stress down for the tape to hold the piece in place (1/32 plywood not 1/64")
Now all I have to do is let everything dry for awhile and start trimming off the excess.

Are you going to cut out the bulkhead that is just before the transom so you have that extra bit of space to move your items around on the inside?

I was not thinking about that one but I was thinking about taking out the one at the other end
of that compartment and making a extra large and long hatch, to hide stuff like the batteries and escs, But bear in mind I am just in the thinking stage and I trimmed the sponsons just a bit ago.
