Thanks Ace, I'll keep that in mind, but I think fitting a sleeve to the strut I have should work. If not I might take you up on the offer.

Does anyone have the dimensions of the Octura Flex Hex 1/8" to .098 Cable coupler? Especially the hex size and the length of the hex part that attaches to the motor.

I'm going to make a water cooled motor mount but need to know what size of hole I will need for the coupler to pass through. I was thinking of something like this.

I could centre the motor on the cooling plate but it would mean I could only use two of the mounting holes. If I used all four at least two of them would break through the tubes in the cooling plate that carry the water.

The other question I had is do I need to use all four mounting holes? Could I get away with just using the two?

Ok, it's been a few weeks, and between work and Christmas not a lot of progress has been made. Which is an understatement if I've ever heard one. But I've sorted out the water pick up and plumbing to the motor cooling plate (still to be drilled out).

I've also got the prop shaft bearings and spacers installed in the strut and it looks like it should work nicely. Not that you can see much in the pictures.

Also think the servo location is pretty much sorted and just need to make up a mounting bracket from some aluminium angle. And need to route the plumbing to the motor ESC cooling plate then exhaust somewhere out of the hull!

And finally the motor gets mounted on the cooling plate. Alignment seems to be ok but I've got a little bit of float just in case it doesn't all line up 100%.

That's a neat looking set of hardware. I think I might get some for my next hydromite!

I bought one of those struts for a micro project but didn't buy the rudder as I though it was too far back from the transom for what I like and not easy to make new brackets for and didn't want the water cooled rudder. I like Joe Solenger's micro rudder better as I also think it will be lighter and easy to make it kick up.

The strut actually is really nice

Ok i measured the slot and the slot for the strut is 5mm long and the screw they provide is 2mm diameter so there is 3mm of movement. I think you could easially file the slot and add 1 or 2 more mm's to the adjustment. I plan on getting it mounted in the correct place so other than adjusting the angle I think there will be plenty of adjustment in the stock strut.
