I may have a clue as to whats going on wake'. Back in the day, the stock motors that come with this are 30t counter rotating. The hot upgrades at the time were tamiya rs540 27 turners. My villain iv came with the original manual.

I think she might be just a lil' overpowered ?. She was never intended for this kinda power. Its like putting a blown 455 buick motor in a pinto'. Yeah it's cool and we love doing it too. I was looking at mine and thinking of adjustable trim tabs or turn fins, to help stabilize her. But there's really not much room on these.

You may have to do some prop swapping, a lil' smaller prop to handle higher r's without pushing so much water. But there's nothing like a way overpower boat skipping across the water though, It's a trade off. Wish I could run mine, but my boat holes mostly ice. My pal took his brushless apache out and lost it on the ice yesterday. They had to break the ice w/ rocks to get the boat back. Lucky for him.

I wanna see how this runs with this setup, so I know where to start. I'll compare it to the new villain and see what the differences are, might shed some light on the handling issues. Thanks !!!

Any 'tweaking' advice? I added 8 oz. of weight between the motors to compensate for the lighter lipos...................i may have to take some neg. out of the outdrives........................anyone have rear end pics of how the EVX runs when trimmed well?

Video.................still got a bit of work left to do, i think the outdrives need a bit less neg to them. The Villain EX's i've seen really seem to run smoothly in comparison, i got some wobble and a bit of squirelliness to her..............

Camera on tripod, was by myself, and on 'autofocus' it kept trying to focus on the semi's going by..........bleh.........

3/4 throttle was the most at any time..............wasnt in the modd for retrieval today.......

Well, she ran like crap the first time out. Bouncing and swaying side to side................hmmmm? I have swapped the prop rotations to what i believe is the correct way and have completely re-programmed the ESC's manually to make sure all the parameters match. I did another bench test and they fire up exactly together and rev out the same to the same top end. May have been a combo of prop rotation and esc's "off" a bit.

Gonna try and get out in the early a.m. for a quick run..................and vid.

Oops, guess I didn't word that quite right. What receiver are you running to support dual esc's ?, or are you running a 2 channel receiver with the esc wires soldered together with a single plug ?. Thanks wake'

I have a Y harness that connects the two esc wire leads together in parallel..................i pulled the red wire from one of them before the Y split as should be done. I have a simple 2.4 ghz reciever, just two channel is all you really need. The ESC's are the Turnigy 60a version.............one is on top of the other.

Fingers crossed here for a good maiden cuz weather has cleared up!

When using 2 identical esc's u can just use a servo splitter plug and run both from the same channel.

Heya make a wake, I like the choice of esc's you used. How did you plug them both in ?. Did you solder the ends together, so they both run off the same plug ?. Or is their a sweet esc for dual brushless motors i dont know about ?.

I am going to be doing a build like this on my Villain IV. At the moment, It has twin 19t speed gems with an astro flight hydro esc, their pushing twin graupner metal props.

I like the build so far, its clean, simple and Sweet !!!!

Lookin' more like an RC boat on the inside now....................lots of wires and tubes!

I have the Dual ESC's one on top the other with some spongy bars between them for air space and to not squish the electronic innards. The bottom ESC is upside down with the square, flat cooling plate facing down. I went with the simplicity of Traxxas connectors on this 50+/- amp draw setup per motor. I have a pair of 4000 30c 3s batts that fit in perfectly where the six cell nimh's were meant to be. I think its lookin' pretty 'clean'.

The water pickups didn't come in today................if i get her out tomorrow, it will be for a couple of 30 second passes just to see what she does..............the motors wont be hugely taxed so the heat will be minimal.

Make a Wake... I'm a bit confused here... Will those bearings fit the stock outdrives? I would love to add those to mine as well.. I can measure the size to find them. Also, you got larger tubes.. What did you get.. basically, I need some hand holding here.. I don't know what you used.. Last question, are the bearings ok to use in the water. My experience with bearings is water and bearings don't mix. Are these ceramic? I should be getting my boat back from the painter in about 2 weeks.. Its not the best weather here so time isn't a big deal anymore.

The Boca bearings we're supposed to fit right in based on the way they were advertised, but they didnt. The flange is the right size and stops the bearing from going all the way in as it should, but the O.D. of the bearing was larger than the OD of the brass bushing. I took a grinding type bit with my dremel and reamed the shaft hole out around the edge till the bearing pressed in firmly. I think i listed the size of the brass tubes earlier in the thread.................i'll have to go back and look, but the bearings for them were 5mm I.D. and 8mm O.D. and fit it with just a tiny, tiny bit of play but cant really pop out the way its set up. The bearings i got are all stainless and are not sealed but 'shielded' where crap wont get in 'em but water will.............no biggy, they'll just dry out and i have bearing oil to throw in there every now and then.

Gonna work on the ESC mounting and connectors here in a bit.......................may get her wet Sunday.
