Great build thread. I found one of these hulls at a swap meet this summer and have been trying to build up the motivation to work on it. It's all built for the most part, but needs some sealing and the curved windshield part was made of wood and is cracked.

Mine is also all wood, including a wood cowl but I see you had to create yours out of fiberglass. That's gotta be a nice little weight savings, mine seems fairly heavy for a cowl.

How much did you buy your kit for, if you don't mind my asking? I've been thinking about finding someone who would really appreciate a model like this & would take the time to finish it up real nice.

Can't wait to see what direction you go with the paint!

I bought this hull here for 70.00 minus the cowl. I love the design but the build quality is another matter Not terribly bad but it took a bit of work to get it right for sure. As for paint its yet to be decided but i'm hoping to start spraying in a couple days so I guess I better decide.

The ply on the bottom is a good way to square the edges,hadn't thought of that.I'll have to keep it in mind,I really like those older hulls on your one link there.Are you on your own if you wanted to build a scale lookin one?Perhaps one could use a formed base and go from there.

I think this is one of those hulls that are underrated with their appeal , their are a lot of real raceboats with similar looking hulls , such as Renarto Mollinari's " Martini Racing " paint scheme ( see attachment ) that would be awesome to recreate . It would be interesting to find out when these hulls including " Prather " were first released in our hobby , if hobbyist especially in the U.K replicated these hulls to be like what raced in Europe 1975-85ish ?? , even with the Dumas Hotshot .45 having longer sponsons compared to a Prather ( ETC ) . With mine , i was thinking of also creating a " Playboy " race scheme . Based on Hugh Heffner's private Black jet of the 1980s ....

Yes I think the older open cockpit tunnels are very cool. I would love to do mine as a replica but the cost of decals is rediculous. The paint is bad enough...lol. I was even thinking i'd like to mount the servo up front and run wires to the OB for steering just like the real ones. I think that would be very cool but again to get all the tiny pulley's needed would likely be costly.

Those are cool i didnt realize you could get ready made kits. I would need 4 very small pulley's to run the cable outside the hull like the real boats have. I'm looking into it but havend found em yet.I would love to do it then I could mount my servo in the cockpit floor and that would make my radio box layout soooo much easier. The servo is right in the way of the esc wires and they are hard to route around it since they are fairly thick.

LOL I also have a couple rc sailboats, probably found the links in a sailboat forum or something.
I think I'm somewhere around 15 boats, some are older hulls that are still good but I've pirated hardware from them, some are nitro boats.
Thinking about a scale tugboat project over the winter as a recovery boat, about 3' would be a good size, I have a few different plans.

The progress has slowed down. The radio box is done and hull primed. I have had some issues with the cowl I made though and will likely be doing it over. Big time drag!!!

Ya I will be aiming for next weekend with this one. I am still waiting on parts anyhow. But I should have it painted in the next few days and I am going to do the new cowl differently so it should be much faster....I HOPE!!!....

Hi Ken ,

Don't rush it mate , when it is right for launching you will know it's time . When i run , if i run into trouble , i always bring my boats home & take time to evaluate fault & rectify concern . Makes for a better time next time out ...
