LOL the plans I got were in a lot worse shape then that. Barely readable. Good idea to frame it and hang it up like that. Im not positive but I believe the hotshot is an old jerry dunlap design.If so it should do just fine. I also like the old prather lapcat hull. I think that one looks a bit more real in the front end. The hotshots sponsons go farther out from the cockpit than they do on the real ones. The prather lookas a little more to scale. I really like this design just the same though. Im pushing to at least have a couple runs on it before winter, but we'll see how it goes.

Except for the Canberra ( National Capitol of Australia ) & Snowy Region which is on the New South Wales & Victorian Borders , Australia is free of snow season , as we have a fairly warm continent , as you may know . So most of the year is good for R/C Boating , though i prefer colder months . If i would have realised from the outset that the Prather was more scale like , i would have bought one . Although nothing wrong with the Dumas as far as i am concerned , it may be a bit heavier than prefered , my bare painted hull without electrics weighs 1.5kg , so how little should they weigh as a raceboat 6S ......

The fiberglass hull is much lighter than that. I havent weighed it but i know even with all the changes ive made its still very light.I plan to cut the front of my radio box out so my batteries can be moved farther forward. That will solve the cog issue and allow me some adjustment .

The blueprinting of the bottom has been finished. A sacrificial coat of primer has been applied to show any imperfections that will show up after painting. A layer of resin was applied to seal the wood and filler used so I still have a bit of sanding to get rid of the brush marks.

Hi Ken ,

The bottom of my Hotshot .45 has been left course , from the sealing with Fibreglass resin . In this way it adds a level of water dispersant , as the flow of water gets deflected . Sure i read about this theory on OSE , & seems logical to me . So maybe you are taking away from your goal a bit , just a thought - anybody wanting to add some technical jargon or add weight to this would be gr8 ....

Yes i realize that topic is one of those things that you could debate forever...lol Im not going to worry about getting it perfectly smooth. I have bad wrists and doing a lot of sanding really makes them ache I just dont want it to be too rough after all this work and have the paint look crappy.

Sorry to hear about your wrists mate , did you have an accident , or do you have something like Repetetive Strain Injury ( RSI ) ?? . Underneath my Hotshot .45 , it has largely been left unpainted , so the course surface is barely noticeable . With yours , i understand your keeness in keeping it as good as the top of it . Can't wait until you launch it Ken , as it would be interesting to find out how it performs , set up as an Outboard 6S powered O/T , for a better understanding of mine which won't be launched until mid next year i propose ....

Yes its RSI, my wrists have no cartilage left just bone on bone. I will be having one fused in the spring so it wont be able to bend anymore. So things like sanding can really be a problem right now. I like how your boat has unpainted wood in the same places as the real one. I actually was going to try to go for that look also but after all the work to get the bottom how I wanted it i,m pretty much just trying to get it done now...lol. The radio box setup is pretty much done. Today I hope to glass the plug for the cowl and then I will begin painting.I hope to do the maiden voyage next weekend.

Here is the first layer of glass being laid on the cowl. Ask me how much fun that was...

A second layer of heavier cloth added while the first layer was still tacky and re -resin'd, Cant wait till it comes time to try and pry it from the hull

The plug seperated from the hull. I will let it cure over night and start the job of trimming and sanding

Great build thread. I found one of these hulls at a swap meet this summer and have been trying to build up the motivation to work on it. It's all built for the most part, but needs some sealing and the curved windshield part was made of wood and is cracked.

Mine is also all wood, including a wood cowl but I see you had to create yours out of fiberglass. That's gotta be a nice little weight savings, mine seems fairly heavy for a cowl.

How much did you buy your kit for, if you don't mind my asking? I've been thinking about finding someone who would really appreciate a model like this & would take the time to finish it up real nice.

Can't wait to see what direction you go with the paint!

Saturday is out for me, my mom is heading for Italy for a while, driving her to the airport, then music up north in the afternoon.
Sunday is looking like better weather anyway.
Going to spray a coat of primer on the hydro and run it that way this weekend. See how it goes before I put time and money into paint! It passed the bathtub test this time, found a small leak on the tail end of the cowl where the turbine exhaust goes.
Pulled my Wildthing out of the basement, might turn it into a 2s boat over the winter, trying to come up with a self righting flood chamber, lots of cardboard templates and test fitting, might not be possible on a nitro conversion, could be easier to just build another hull.
The Kneeler hydro is a 3.5 outboard design yes? Trying to come up with another build now that I'm finished this one. May have to build a guitar before a boat though! Not really sure is this guy is actually going to pony up the cash and I won't start without a deposit that at least covers materials. This one may be a copy of a 50's Lap Steel.

Sorry to bud in but any body know what has become of Mr Dunlap.I used to race and such with him.I like this tread. A tunnel may be next.
