1/10 Scratch Built Thunderboat (Finlay Plans)

A few other things I have completed:
Rudder is drilled and mounted along with the holes for the 4/40 pushrod.

To keep the water out of the boat I used a small piece of brass which I glued in place with some CA & epoxy then put a piece of water tubing over that which I will then zip-tie the pushrod seal to so everything is nice and clean on the transom.

I cut out an area in the rear stringer to mount the servo.
I made a mounting plate out of some 1/8" ply which drilled holes for some t nuts & then I epoxied that the opening I cut in the stringer.
Servo fits nice and snug and is right inline with the rudder.

I will take some photos of these and post them up soon as I can.
I plan to finalize the last few things over the next few days and test the boat ASAP!

Well I got everything finished up and boat is ready to test.
Here are some updated pics of things.

The stuffing tube and strut are glued in with some silicone for easy adjustments when needed.
The turn fin I made out of some carbon fiber I had and used wood screws to hold it in place, figured would be a bit different and see how it works out.
You can see I have the servo mounted in the rear stringer and it worked out very well.
The water outlet is last pic shown and was a PITA to get it where I wanted it which was right behind the right sponson transom, I had to drill/cut/file through the stringer and another piece of the framing to get some clearance to make sure the tubing and bolts would fit correctly.

First picture is the bottom of the hatch/cowl where I had to cut out the foam in the dummy motor for clearance.
The dummy motor was glued on with some silicone.

There is 2 lead teflon bushings inside the strut & also 2 inside the stuffing tube, just behind the strut there is a strut cone which Brian "Snowman" helped me machine which I really appreciate with his busy schedule helping me out with my build!!


One thing I did not mention is I will be using qty 2 2s 5300 gens ace batteries which I can move forward and back in the hull as needed.
They will be placed beside the motor to start then moved around accordingly.

Boat is ready for testing then if all goes well I will finish up the painting and decals.
Got rained out last weekend so hoping weather stays good and I can find some time this week!

Thanks guys I am excited to test it looking like may have some time Friday.
I had to get this done so i can try to catch last few races of the season!!

Chud the boat is 36" long & 16" wide.
Powered by an SV motor & T120 esc.
It has been a long precess but well worth it and I am very happy with how the boat has come out.
It is only my second scratch build and first thunderboat so it has been a learning process but have had a lot of help from great guys in the hobby that are always willing to lend some knowledge when they can!!

STAY TUNED hope to have some photos and possibly video if all goes well.

Seasons over? We finished last year in a snow storm towards the end of November! Boats were coming in with ice and slush on the decks.
Only charge to about 95% if you're charging outside at those temps though.
Cellpro chargers rock, have an automatic cold weather charge mode!

Well I got a chance to take the boat out & I was very happy with the way the boat ran.
I got a small video which isn't that great as it was my first launch and I was getting use to the boat and handling.
I will post it soon as I can upload it.
I also think I had a bind in the cooling system as the motor and esc got a bit hot and I could not see water coming out of the outlet.
I think it was the batteries shifting as I only taped them in place and they were moving around a little bit.

I am also going to move the water outlet to the deck because where I have it is a bit hard to tell if water is flowing or not and I can put it on the deck like the original boat had the fuel fill cap I think would look neat and work a lot better.

I will be disassembling everything and finish painting & putting decals on.

I have a cellpro charger, its the smaller one but it works great.
