Yes... same rigger that Brian brought down to the SAWs earlier this year and that I used in February for the 41-second record. Different gearing this time, and better cells.

I need to get some data on the cells to see what kind of voltage I'm dropping to under load. Need to find out if the weight savings is worth the trade-off in voltage drop. ThunderPower ProPower 45C 2250mah 2S1P is what I used in both boats this time. Total mah used for the run was 550mah... about 560 for the mono...

Normally, I would think the smaller cells/power to weight ratio would not be a worthwhile trade off, but you're running true 45c cells, so you're definitely benefiting from the weight savings

I predict the diminishing point will be when the boat becomes too light altogether which you're not seeming to have a problem with.

Nice setup! I like that rigger Brian brought down. I'm gonna copy a cool thing or two I saw on it.

The two things I'll copy are the tranny and the fact that it has to be a touch wider to accomidate the side angle offset motor gear mesh..

Further proof that I'm losing my mind... One of my friends with Puget Sound Model Boat Club, Mark Anderson, gave me these to replace the "heavy" stainless fasteners on this boat... These are 4-40 ALUMINUM!

Maybe now I can afford the extra weight of a metal rudder... The carbon rudder worked perfectly... right up to the point where I blew the boat off the water and it snapped in half... Saving the few grams on this part might not be worth it... unless I make a bunch of replacement parts for it...

On an N-1 the only titanium I'll use is motor mount screws. The rest are Aluminum.
On my larger boats where aluminum isn't strong enough I go titanium.

I'm not a huge fan of steeel fasteners unless absolutely nessecary

couple of questions if you don't mind please. Everytime I bring up weight in a RC boat, I am shot down as weight doesn't matter anymore due to the power now available. Is this boat an exception due to running in N1 with a limited ROAR power source? This is what I am guessing, but just wanted to know for sure.

Also, is the boat 22" long? Guess from the title, didn't see it mentioned in the text.

These boats look so similar to my 24" and 22" mono's that I have been building for the past 15 years, it is surprising. It was a common design back in the 90's. I recently pulled the molds back out, I thought the design was "outdated". I remember making a 22" one back in the 90's, thought it weighed in at 4 or 5 oz. I traded one to the guy from Astroflight for a 05 motor, the other went to jason Boyd or George Dalecki <sp>. The design was originally George's. Either of those guys still around? George is from SW Michigan, Jason was up in Canada. Sorry for the rambling extra information.....

Yes... N1 has a true "spec" power system. The ROAR "Stock" rules are strictly defined and that is what you are limited to.

Also, is the boat 22" long? Guess from the title, didn't see it mentioned in the text.
Yup... 22" WildThing Mono. This hull design was created by John Finch a LONG time ago. It's a good solid design.

I recently pulled the molds back out, I thought the design was "outdated". I remember making a 22" one back in the 90's, thought it weighed in at 4 or 5 oz.
Would be interested to see what hulls you have molds for. VERY few people run this class anymore, and I believe it's likely destined to become a SAW and 2-Lap only class, like it is with IMPBA. The only people still really running it regularly are the District 1 guys. As you can see... it's NOT really a "beginners" class. Not if you want to go this "fast", anyhow...

This hull, with the deck and hatch installed, prior to assembly, weighed around 6oz., but is as rigid as they get.

N-1 is making a tiny comeback (no pun intended) on a national level in fact, all the N-1 drivers got together and agreed we will run crackerbox next year.

This project you're doing is excellent for the class.
Once you bolt on your new system and post vid, guys will take interest.

Its a spec class, low maintenance motors, low cost batteries, and newly discovered robust power.

One of the fastest N1 Mono hulls I've ever seen, (prior to Bill finding even more speed recently!) was one owned by Doug Twait's Jr. It was basically an Eco, but it's bottom was such that it was a legal NAMBA Mono. Sub-surface drive and everything. I think it was only 19" long too. A little rocket...

                            I'm TERRIFIED of that boat.
I asked him to borrow it one year he said NO way. He didn't make an excuse, he didn't say "my mom wont let me" He flat out said NO LoL

Douggie is an awesome guy and probably the best boater I've ever met hands down, but they're keepin those 2 little ecos theyve got in the family.

The last time I was in Michigan at the Nats Jason walked up to me, it had been so long I did not recognize him. He gave me hell and we had a good laugh!
