Jim, I was delighted to see that I am very close the way the boat is set up with a 13.25" CG. I am just a tad heavy at the sponsons. That should improve some when I get the 4200 that I have on order for this boat. Right now I have a 5500 in it.

Also a newguy question. Why cut down such a large prop instead of cutting down maybe a 45mm prop? Sorry I'm doing my best to learn props.

Teach the water was a bit choppy, wind was blowing and yes, this thing is on rails!!!!

I am by NO means a prop expert!!! Hand raised high in the air!!

I think typically when the diameter of props is cut down it's because the application needs more ''push" (blade area) with less diameter. My SAWs monos for example don't like big wheels, bad things happen. lol
This prop was tuned for a mono by Andy Brown.
I ran the prop because it was the best prop I had for baseline data with this boat.

This is my first rigger, I am having a blast and learning a ton!!! Can't wait to get back to the pond.

Cowls from Vac-U-Boat

I went to our good friend Phil Pace at Vac-u-Boat to see if he would be interested in making some cowls for the JAE 21 FE. See Pics.

I really like the look of the "Stealth" cowl! If there is enough interest I'm sure Phil will make these available.
If your boat is already built, it shouldn't be hard to remove the sub deck above the 2nd bulkhead so you can use the cowl.
What do you think??

Could the nitro guys use a cowl like that? They seem to be hunting cowls for the .12 and .21. Maybe the folks at Vacu-boat could make a little money with them as well.

I like the streamlined one Doug! Seems to go well with the rest of the lines that the JAE has...
I think the rounded one looks like the Rigged Insanity too much (which I have...great kit!)
...I would be interested.....Let me know when you get more info/ pricing...

Doug, Funny you brought up the cowls idea. I just got a couple cowls in the mail today that I ordered from Osborn Models (used on the Rigged Insanity). As it turns out, they were allot bigger than I thought and are a bit too wide for the JAE. That stealth cowl is da bomb! Goes great with the lines of the JAE. It looks so cool, the nitro guys will be jealous.


Also, I'm curious how you came up with the target 13.25 CG? Is that 40% of the distance between the tail end of the ski and the tail end of the sponsons riding surface? Would that give us the 60/40 weight bias that the JAE Gods say we need to strive for?

Mike, first off..... this is my first rigger, I am just ahead of you in the newbie line LOL

I ask for that figure from a individual who has done well with the boat. As it turns out my boat is almost dead nuts 60/40 with the CG at 13.25" measured from the transom.
This is with a Hyperion 5500 that I don't intend on running in it. I am just a tad heavy at the sponsons.

My opinion: CG at 13.25" will give us a real good starting point. However, if you have a couple of scales, use them.

Phil did a great job on the cowl and the vinyl windshield, I love it, glad you guys do too!!!
Here is my finished boat. The only thing I am going to change is the prop. I should learn a lot this weekend.

Yes, There are those of us nitro guys (including me) that are looking for cowls to cover our engines with. Of course they would have to be taller than those in the pics. Those are nice looking cowls, though!
