Race Prepped BlackJack 29 V2

This was purchased new but never raced by Stephen [Chiefy_44]. We started prepping it but Stephen had a change of direction-the boat has only 2 short wets for less than 10 min total. Been sitting on shelf since.

Boat has:
1800KV Dynamite motor
80A Dynamite waterproof ESC (with built-in BEC) - 4S or 6S capable
5.5 bullets on ESC and motor. 5.5 males on ESC to battery (will change battery connector polarity if desired)
upgraded to .187 Aeromarine flex and Octura collet - will be good for much bigger motors if desired
blueprinted sponsons with re-painted bottom
Tiqueman ultra-strong custom fiberglass hatch color matched with rear threaded thumbscrew hold-down plus clear tupperware
ProBoat metal prop
wooden boat stand included

I sent a pm to ask basic questions. Didn't realize this wasn't allowed. Here's a cut and paste of the pm.

Ive been lurking on the forum a while and decided to register when I saw your ad. I've been researching all the boats and considering a BJv3. I didn't really want to pay for radio gear I won't use and your v2 would solve that issue and save me a little $. Since the sponsons have been blueprinted I would guess it should perform more like the v3 although it still has the wood inside? I'm not new to r/c (been in it 35 years and was converting nitro cars to brushless before it was mainstream) but I'm new to boats. I assume the boat will need tx, rx, steering servo (the one in the pic not included?), and lipo's? What servo and lipo size do you recommend? 2x 2s 5000 maybe? Is there anything else I need, or need to know about the boat? I apologize for the long pm.

Thanks for the inquiry. I'll do my best to answer your questions

Blueprinting the sponsons removes mold production irregularities. The sponsons are just like the V3.

The original Dynamite steering servo is installed and included.

You are correct on batteries -the most common battery configuration for sport is 2 X 2S 5000mah in series. You can alternately up the runtime by going to 2S X 6000mah. For P-Ltd Cat heat racing many (myself included) will go 4S 2P 4000mah for more headroom plus the extra weight helps stability in racewater several laps in. You can actually squeeze in 2 X 4S 5000 mah packs - my clubmate with a duplicate boat does this.

Once you decide on batteries, I'll make sure the ESC battery input connectors are configured to your battery connector type and polarity.

This is a really nice boat - I'd keep it for myself to race here in D19 but I already have a boat rigged for this season.

Thanks for the reply. I was thinking I read somewhere that the v3 sponsons where better and didn't need blueprinting like the v2. I may have gotten confused on that. I'm still trying to weigh my options. I won't be club racing but I want something fast as I'm used to 70+ mph cars. Not sure if I will be happy with an 1800 on 4S.

1800KV on 4S will be a nice ride but if you go to 6S it'll step up appreciably in speed. Most all of us in D19 NAMBA P-Ltd Cat have stepped down from the original go-to AQ 2030 to the 1800 for better reliability. The higher KV motors don't seem to hold up although if you want I can substitute a low mileage AQ 2030Kv for the same price if you'd like. Bear in mind that this boat has a .187 flex and collett replacing the stock .150 cable so if you want to re-power for higher speeds it'll be ready in the drive department. To go 70 mph you'll need to up the motor/ESC. Just so you know, there's some "surprises" you'll have pushing a 29" boat to 70mph

I hear ya. Lol! Not really looking for 70, I just don't want to be disappointed, being used to something fast. I would say mid to upper 50's might keep me content for a while. I'm guessing I can't get away with running 6s on that speed control and motor? There's only about 4000 rpm difference between the 1800 and the 2030 so if I have to stay at 4s do you think the speed will be much different between the 2? Sounds like the 1800 is the better motor for the same $. Figuring speeds with a prop in water is a little different than what I'm used to. Thanks for putting up with all the questions. I'm pretty sure I want the boat, just want to make sure I get the right setup and understand what will or will not work.

I've run 52.2 mph in my Motley Crew with a M445 using the AQ 2030 BUT it gets too hot after a mill + 6 . Most of us have had the same experience (meltdowns) so we've gone to the 1800KV motor - roughly 48-maybe 49mph with the same prop. To get in the mid fifties with the BJ/1800 I'd say that you can bump up to 6S and get there. Visually from shore 50 mph looks pretty much like 55mph 'tho!

Stephen's other boat ( a modded Geico, a precursor to the BJ rigged with a 1515 1Y 2200KV on 4S2P) got to the mid/upper 50's but it was a wild ride ; I've now rigged it with an AQ1800KV for a club member to race P-Ltd Cat with :

If you want a higher KV motor (AQ2030) I'll drop one in now(or swap out after you've run the boat as a n/c exchange). I have a few low mileage spares I take to the races just in case

EDIT : From the RTR Proboat section here on OSE :

"When I got the V3 and drove it it was way to hot for my liking even with the timing all the way down... I was probably still in the range of being okay but I dont like to see anything over 120....Once I put the old BJ 1800kv motor in it was like night day. Just my opinion but that new 2000kv motor does not seem efficient. It had my 3s 6000mah 50c lipos to 130 degrees...... I stopped that right away....
Now that i got this motor in and it rips and stays no hotter than 110 I'm happy...... Is it me or does anyone feel the same way but my new V3 120 amp esc doesnt seems as powerfull as the old dyanmite 80 amp....Maybe its the settings and the old 80 amp dyanmite had a harder start but boy oh boy did the old BJ have some crazy acceleration..."
