You could also pick up a mean machine and get a little experience with building out your own boat to your desired objectives. There are alot of guys here who have experience with this hull and will be more than happy to assist you each step of the way.

...not yet that confident to build my own Domwilson. Nor would I have the confidence to set it up right. At least if I purchase one that is an RTR like the yellow cat pictured above I can experience what Rc boating is all about and maybe in the future once I have some experience and understand these money pits better I might attempt my own build.

What is the lake like that you want to run on? Reasonably calm, or choppy? That might have an effect on the right boat for you.

I know you're keen on a hydro or cat, but there's a couple of monos for sale in our club (Brisbane, Qld). They've been raced, but are in good nick and drive very well. We have a practice day on Sunday, so I'll see if anyone is selling anything.

I'm considering selling a hydro that is probably perfect for you, but I am just not sure if I want to part with it (love the boat, but I have too many ). I plan on giving it a run on Sunday and see how I feel afterwards. Will let you know if you're still in the market.

The comment that a V hull corners better than a cat is totally the opposite of my extensive experience. IMHO A good cat hull will run totally flat in the turns where a V will want to be all over the place.

For someone starting out I would definitely recommend a Cat. If you would rather have a Hydro, then the Aquacraft UL-1 is hard to beat for the money. It's fast, stable, and a ball to drive.

...thanks sailr for the feedback. Im defineltely going to want a stable hull to begin with. Something that will be fun to run recreationally turning left and right with reverse if the speedie allows it at speeds of upto 50mph in a straight line. Looks like it WILL be a cat hull I purchase.

My hydro is probably no good for your needs, it is not stable at all during left turns. She's built to run an oval. Lot's of hydros are like this.

I think a decent width cat (Mean Machine or Skunkworks), or a good mono would be your best bets.

...thats what Im leaning towards, it looks like the Skunk Cat is the way to go for me at this stage as a great fast hull that turns left or right and goes hard in a straight line.

...a 29" Skunk Cat reworked by Paul Pachmayer. Im hopefull it was the right direction for me to take, to play, learn and begin to understand how Rc boating/racing works. As a complete newbie to this hobby all the help and info was greatly appreciated.

...daggersfl has posted some pics on this thread. The set up is a Nemesis 9xl, Castle 120amp ESC, Speedmaster hardware, X445 prop. Are you looking for something similar why the curiosity?

Curious because I have one. Not much info. on people's setups with these cats. Sounds like this one has a good setup.

...I believe it is, what are you running in yours? Ive heard that the x445 prop is not as efficient as the x6 (x642) series props. From what i had read so far the 6 series run the electrics cooler, if I have read correctly.

Maybe someone else can chime in and help us both out on some addtional information???
