i was looking at a lower kv motor that could handle more volts so i was thinking higher volts more rpm? two 4s batts or even two 6s but i'm pretty sure i would need a hv esc to handle it ... i know that seaking makes a 80a hv that would handle 160 or 180a bursts but it doesn't make sense to me because if you were to run two 6s batts wouldn't that fry the 80a hv esc?

If you can get your hands on a CC/Neu 1717... Great motor, perfect size for the Sparty. 6s2p is what you want, not 2x6s packs in series. A Turnigy or Seaking 180 will do quite well with that motor as well.

Why is it when a few guys see someone throw a bunch of volts at a high kv motor, and it goes REALLY fast for a few vids that everyone all of a sudden thinks it is a good idea?

In fairness he did say lower kv.

To the OP:

The idea of running higher voltage/lower kv is to reduce current draw and run bigger props. Your setup will generally run cooler when acheiving the same RPM, and you will have longer runtimes with the same mah.
You have to keep in mind the room you have in the hull and the weight of the boat with all those batteries though.
