do you think that whole fc assembly will fit as well as the one you bought from r2? just trying to avoid a trip to the machine shop.

oh, btw, will i also have that gap between the stuffing tube & strut? any way of avoiding that?

Oh that I wouldnt know. I was just surprised that when I got my r2 hobbies strudder it was an exact fit. As for the standoffs, get the one here in ose. Actually, the standoffs will in effect act as a breaking point if your rudder hits something. I know I read that somewhere here in ose.

Ever thought of using the PB Mystic offset rudder system? It might be a straight bolt in. Maybe Phil's hobby shop or any online shops sell those by now?

Yeah, Shawn has a solution for that - you gotta have copper stuffing tubes in different thickness - just cut, insert to both ends. In my case, I use a shrinking tube to cover everything when done.

Since you are on that side of the planet,you should talk to Nata2run in Australia.He is capable of making anything you need if you ask nice and probably mention me.

The easiest way to make the templates for twin mounts is with a chunk of cardboard.Just keep trimming till you get the right fit where you want it(angle and such).You should only need to make one but try it on both sides.You should be able to scan that and e-mail it to him to have him make it.
Or at that point you can cut them with a coping saw as I did with mine.Use a metal blade. Can you get CF sheet?I've been making it for some of the guys.

Thanks Shawn! I think I can do the template and hopefully my brother's neighbor who has a laser cutter can cut it for me. The problem now is where I can get a small piece of CF?

The stock I believe is in-line similar to the R2 hobbies/ebay strudders, so they just buy the offsets. Cant really say if they're better as I only got a bare hull & never did have an actual stock MG strudder to compare it with.
all I can say is I've run my MG to hell and back, turnovers and cartwheels.............but I never had a blow over yet! hehehehe. I feel these strudders do take the force good.
The hardware is metal, while your hull even in fiberglass or cf layed is still softer than metal - so reinforcing the hull should be your top priority, I think. I even had the tips of the sponson poured with resin - about 1-1/2" deep to keep the tips strong and to add a bit of weight on the front.

I too had difficulty when I started out - terms, words seems alien to me.

I guess defined simply, a sponson is the left & right (starboard and port) side of a Cat that projects down to the ride pads with a length from the front tips to the rear near the transom.

Arrgh........I think I made a mistake. Instead of Sponson, it could be very well be "Pontoon" as according to this Wiki definition:

i think i might have come across it somewhere while reading, i don't remember now. man, i started reading the thread, took me a while to get to page 3, there is a lot of info & posts there

I went with .157 or roughly 4mm - it didnt fit the stock teflon of the bare hull MG so I took the teflon off and just used the bare flex inside. Also, my 4mm flex perfectly mated with the prop drive that came with the R2 strudder. Naturally, I also get my flex shafts and stuffing tube from R2 as well.

As for the gap, I normally collect the various cut stuffing tubes from other boat builds - I found one that would slip over the stock MG stuffing tube and would insert inside the strut section of the R2 strudder. I then slip a shrink tube & heated with a lighter.
But make sure you slip the shrink tube first before connecting the gap.

Mine is covered with shrink tube, so I doubt if it'll help. Lets ask Shawn if he has any pics.
