Easy Off is some pretty caustic stuff! You wearing rubber gloves when you use it? I know it will turn aluminum black. Wouldn't want to get any on the motor or hardware.

Yes, denatured alcohol will clean the soot off the boat just fine. It helps with the odor but doesn't completely get rid of it, probably because the smoke is up under the deck, etc, where you can't really get to.

Just smoked my castle ice 100 in my FE30 this evening stopped by Target and got some easy off took everything out of the hull and now it looks and smells good as new. Rinsed it off really good I think it'll be alright.

Feel bad about the esc but at least my hull is in good shape so is my brand new 4s pack! Thanks for the suggestion about easy off.

ust going by what the link posted to wikipedia. Denatured alcohol is a lot different than the isopropyl stuff you buy at the drug store. It is basically methanol. Wood Grain Alcohol. BTW, it's deadly if you drink it! Haha.

It works quite well to remove the 'smoke'!

I do not think it is the same as just denatured alchohol, it agresivly disolves castle fet goo very quickly.

A couple of my hulls have that nice smell of dead esc.
I approach the whole thing in two ways.

1. Let it be and the smell eventually goes away, wife says otherwise but I get used to it.
2. Leave it as is, because it may happen again soon !!

Just tested something else on a friends boat coming in for repairs: good old 2+2 Carb cleaner. Cleans a lot better than oven cleaners, being focused on similar residues instead of organic ones...

no, aka canadian gas line anti-freeze. It is also used to thin shelac, so you just wipe it on and wipe it off. Found it in paint department in canada 2 years ago at wallyworld.
