Medusa Motors, anyone using them?

Here's mine after one weekend it didn't even make it to the 1 min. to check temps. I was testing prop sizes. The cap fell off on one run temp was 110 on motor I put the cap back on. Then went up 2 sizes on the prop and this is what happened after 40 seconds. I hope they have good CS or there goes another $100.00

I hate to say it, but it could be a dud... you may have had the short straw on that one.
The only good thing I can see coming out of this is that you will be taken thru the whole system of theirs and will be able to experience it first hand...
please keep us posted on how things are coming along.

I mailed it of Monday, the got it Wednesday (tracking #). I called them on Friday and the guy said they just got to it and they will go threw it (sounds like they are going to repair it). One good thing I can say is the magnets did not demagnetize that's why I included them in the bag. I have a thrust bearing on the way from offshore (ordered late Wednesday) so when it goes back up it will have one! So far it seems like they stand behind there product and that's all I ask from a company. I'll keep you posted of the final outcome.

I remember reading a lot of bashing threads about Neu motors back a few years ago and they turned out to be top notch motors. I have run the older Medusa motors in my helis years ago and they had a ton of power. IF the medusa motors have the same bolt pattern, diameter and length as the 1515 1Y that I am currently running I will try one and post the results.

How is the endbell attached to the case, by screws or is it actually screwed on?
that may be something they may wanna revise for the future.

I'm not really sure on the endbell no screws or threads. I didn't really notice it until it came off. It looks like it just slides in there. When I called them he sounded surprised that it came off.

That was a problem in the past with the Neu motors as well. If you don't use a thrust bearing up against the motors can there is a lot of force that is pushing on the endbell.

Yep. A thrust bearing is required on most motor designs as they are designed to have the shaft pulled in the opposite direction, rather than pushed.

All of our motors now have screws securing the back plate--as well as glue.

Steve, is it viable to have a can that's reversed, meaning the part that opens being on the shaft side and the back side being part of the can (like something extruded)?

The motor can have the shaft reversed and come out what is the back of the motor. Not a big deal to do--just has to be ordered that way.

Well one of my Medusa Motors arrived last week,a MR-3670-2300V2SE-5

Running in 29" Delta (knock off) on a 4S 5000 pack
Very,very smooth motor,the smoothest i've had so far.
Easy pulls a X640 prop,motor,Turnigy 120amp esc comes back cool.
This hull will be setup for MPBA mono2 oval heat racing,i just need 6 mins run time,which i am not going to get on a 640 prop.
A 442 prop will probably give me better run times,i hope..Keep experimenting!!

Bring them on... Already seen them in boating action... and they didn't do what they claimed... being, swap out a Neu for a Medusa and go as fast... not even remotely... HOWEVER, I'm open to someone proving that wrong... Go for it!

Then... We'll compare an equal application to one of the even "cheaper" "Chinese" 6-pole motors...

By contrast... I HAVE run a Losi Xcelorin 1/8th scale motor, which is a 4-pole, similiar in specs (almost identical) to a Neu 1515 1Y... and it DOES perform nearly as well... maybe even on par... 8mm shaft, turned down to 5mm on the output, so BIG bearings... quality windings... 4-pole design... OSE Neu 15-series water jackets fit perfectly....

So... test these Medusas and let's see some numbers... The more choices the better in my opinion... but don't waste our time with claims and bad-mouthing the motors some are running with decent success, until you have something to back it up in the way of real data!

Well into the upper 60mph range in full oval trim. Another commercially available motor that can be run on any speedo.
