Rudder pushrod-linkage

I use these 2mm push rods, they are s/s. Tried to make thread with a 2mm die but couldn't. The s/s is very strong.

Do you know where to find 4-40 s/s? or 3mm s/s? By the way what is the diameter of the 4-40?

I have heard of people using SS welding rods for linkage. If your linkage sections are straight you can use hollow carbon/fiberglass rod as a reinforcment.

You won't believe it. I have these as well, 2 or 3 mm I think. They are super strong and much stronger than the ones I mentioned above. I tried to make thread in the past but no way, there4 left them aside, they are really difficult to bend as well. But now I can epoxy the clevis or ball joint on one side and on the other side the ez connector. I will find them again, thanks. These I got from a shipbuilding yard.

i spend most of my time at work tig welding so i have a ready supplie of 1.6-2mm s/s rod, but found thicker rod at a local hobby shop they have 4-40 (i thought 4-40 was a imperial measurment of some kind but this may not be rite) they have them for planes with a threaded end with or with out clevis there made by du-bro http://www.shopatron.com/product/par...161.5165.0.0.0

If you want stainless steel, use bicycle spokes. They are VERY strong. You will need to silver solder your connections though.

Yesterday night I reassembled (again) the linkage. Tried to fit the s/s welding rods (I have 2, 2.4 and 3mm rods) soldered the threaded coupler but finally decided to use the 2mm rods which are threaded on one end, fitted a Sullivan clevis there (servo side) and an ez-connector that i found on the rudder side. Let's see how it will perform. Relocated also the servo as close as possible to transom.

From an asthetic point of view I like to fit the clevis or ball end at the rudder and the ezi-connector at the servo (inside).

You are Australian and you lot do most stuff backwards.
Clevis or ball outside, at the rudder horn , ezi-connector inside at the servo horn.
Really it is so hard ??

Wait untill I have the new rudder setup for a Cat I may build.
Designing and building the hardware is half of the fun, I have most of the rudder setup done.

I ordered some 4-40 push rods and various connectors as well, just in case. I saw that the 4-40 is 0.093" diameter which is about 2.4 mm.

Just a note on the dubro swivel ball links. I get the version for the 2-56 then I redrill the plastic and thread in my 4-40 rod. Works Great. I also always use the speedmaster mini (.21)
rudder assembly. The hole in the rudder are are already the correct size to tap a 2-56 thread into it.

Nice. Which 4-40 rod are you using? Is it s/s or galvanized?
There are the Dubro Heavy Duty 4-40 ball links available also which I suppose fit the 4-40 rods.
