going through all the MM builds and see a lot of fiber being layed over the tunnel....I have spotted a weak spot in my tunnel towards the front that I want to reinforce....is the heavy 5oz fiber glass from OSE good enough say two layers or should I use the black carbon fiber mat..also where do you get the black mat?
carbon fiber or fiberglass?

Please don't feel that way!
I don't have as much experience with this type of thing. For cost, I would recommend 3 or 4 layers of thinner glass. Otherwise, I'd say some CF mat would be fine.
So far as where to find, there are several links that have been posted about the availability of CF and various blends. Your local hobby shop likely has some, but it is usually located with the plane/helicopter stuff. This material is also available on Ebay as well as many composite manufacturers.
I hope this helps and don't get discouraged because no one responds right away. Often times I find that my threads are not responded to immediately, especially when I ask about a specific item related to a specific application.

There are a few different options when it comes to carbon fiber. There is the mat that you are referring to typically has carbon fibers that create what could be referenced as 'mesh'.
There there is the woven fibers. The woven fiber versions are also available in various combinations, some of which include the addition of Arimid/Kevlar materials.
If you cannot find these materials at your local hobby shop, then you can find by searching the forum for 'carbon fiber'. If you still can't find, post again and myself and others can provide links.

Another thought, you could always contact Steven to see if he has some material available for you to purchase. I'm sure that he can help you and if you buy from Steven, you can pickup any other incidentals from the OSE site that you may need, saving on shipping.

Thank you so much sir for that honest answer.....I was begining to feel like I had the plague.......I am so new to FE boats
I have a lot of experience in rc buggies and truggies and brush less set ups in these vehicles but I see so much difference in boat set ups...I was never interested in boats until I started watching some youtube videos and fell in love with the sound and awesome rooster tails of FE boats...I cant wait to get my MM project to the pond and try it myself...I have really been racking my brain trying to decide which of my brush less motors to use...I just don't understand how props work compared to pinions and spur gears in a car...seems a bit more complicated.....sorry for the rant

I would use carbon fiber. I've tried glass in that area of the MM and it just doesn't have the strength.Steven Vaccaro

If you got one of the MM hulls that was gas powered than by all means strengthen the tunnel!
When I started mine "Fluid" advised me to use Carbon fiber or carbon fiber ribs from kite kits!
I ordered some CF mats from a place in California. I'll see if I can find the name of the place! We did it with a Bang!

lightly sand the area to be applied
cut a piece of cloth to fit
apply two part appoxy to the area and let it dry for 30 min
apply the cloth to the area and work it in

I still laid down a thin coating of epoxy before I applied the mat! The surface of the tunnel is not all that smooth and I was concerned about how well the adhesive that came on the mats would hold ... especially after getting wet!We did it with a Bang!
