Jan, Mr Krabs is finally repaired and I am taking him to the pond this morning for more setting up tests. Trying to get maximum speed from him before I put the fast motor in. The problem is I am shooting in the dark as there is no real guide to strut depth etc. I will add a bit about how I solved the problem of the sponsons sliding off the end of the CF booms on the Mr Krabs thread when I get time.

Aside from the plastic spacers (which are always WAY out), the rod supplied with the Top Flite magnetic balancer usually isn't straight, and it's a pretty soft metal. Read the book chapter I did on prop balancing. Steve has a copy on his site here: http://www.offshoreelectrics.com/inf...andbalance.php and you can find copies elsewhere (Google for "andy kunz prop balancing" to find them).

It always makes me smile that first we have to balance the balancer before we balance a prop. What ever happened to quality control? Maybe they could make a RTU (ready to use) balancer. I would not mind paying a little extra for that.

I agree totally. Thought this would be an easy project. Was I ever wrong. After about 80hrs of proto types I finally have the perfect balancer.

Oh yea. Have to work the last bug out. The steel I was using is not pure enough to balance perfect. I ordered some high quality tool steel which will never wear out. Will be end of next week till I get the ends ground. Have the aluminum housings already finished.

Please let us know when you have these ready for sale!!

Also, if I can offer some advice... On the balance rod... You will geta more accurate balance if you turn down the ends to a smaller diameter and eliminate some mass along the length of the rod... Leave a section of 3/16" in the middle to hold the prop, but turn down the reast to 1/8" or ???

Not sure if that will leave enough material for the magnets to hold it up, but if it can, that would make this more precise...

there are plenty of us that have 1/8 shaft props that also need some lovin'... and balancing.

It'll work at 1/8" - that's what the other magnetic balancers come with stock.
