I'm starting to think 27" might be to small and I need to find a light 30" hull

If you are going to stretch to 30" I think the Insane FE30 would be the one.
You've seen how Johns' goes at lakeside. Speak to him. I'm sure he had a restricted set up in it at some stage.

no only the 1500, it was my bad.
We run in the AMPBA " Australian model power boat association " but the restricted is a club class for us.

Thanks, mine is not set up like TFL stock, motor is more in the front.
I hope they're doing OK, last year when I visited the factory, the owner was very nice but did convey the difficulty of running such business in China. Did you try to e mail Monica?

These are so pretty. Mine was an used hull, however, whoever did the layout ( I got it from Ron1950 and he got it from Jim of MiniCatUSA) knew a thing or two about hydro boats. I redid the motor mount and stuffing tube but I retained the original position. I have some uncertainties with TFL's stock placement of the motor, it's rather placed towards the back. Wonder what it does to the ease of adjustment of COG?
Also the stock vertical fin is a rather flimsy affair. Strangely enough mine came without it and I slotted the back and put a piece of G-10 FG. I do realize the driver is not to scale but I kind of like the goofiness of the set up.

It would be nice if you can get a bare hull. The gel coat on mine wasn't as good as what I have come to expect from TFL, also the FG was rather frail and thin, I did two layers of FG layups, but then again, I don't know the history of the origin. I also blue printed/trued the ride pads.
I first ran this with Proboat's 1800kv motor, with that set up there is nothing you can do to upset the hull. When I moved to the 2100kv motor running with a detongued X642, I did feel the need to add an air dam. I use two 2s and they are placed halfway forward of the motor on each side.
I do apologize to have gotten carried away so much, but I love how this hydro drives and because it was an old hull, I have no worries of bashing around. lol......

If you aren't dead-set on fiberglass, one of the best ones I've found in this size is the GP265 (26.5") by ML Boatworks. I have one that has performed beautifully, especially in rough conditions. It is a fairly simple build and certainly stands up to anything you could throw at it. It also survives crashes at speeds over 70 MPH if you decided to go with a different motor/setup.
