Why of why did my hydra 240 fry..??

Did you google that??? Really though I wasent trying to be an @ss( even though I tend to be one latley ). I just kind of vented my frustraition with this subject & needless dollars being sent up in smoke. I've seen it so many times now & it's never "our" fault....lol.

I know I've learned a few things .

In retrospect I think my biggest mistake was abusing the motor and it took out the esc

Ghost, unfortunately the makers of most rc products do not know the abuse we do to their products..high amps and voltage. That is why, if you are not sure of a setup, post it here and some guys with a lot of knowledge will help you. As they have learnt from the school of hard knocks.

Ghost, after I said, "know the motors wattage rating". I discovered it is not easy to find this info. Hope to change that.

I dont think your wire length had anything to do with it. I believe you fried your motor first which would have led your amp draw to go through the roof and that is what killed your controller.

Well after more research I think that the motor to esc wires need to be kept as short as possible or at least no longer than exists when new.
I have a new esc on the way and plan on doing whatever necessary to keep the motor - esc wires factory or shorter but would like to make an adapter for the batteries.I currently run 6mm bullets and 10ga wire on my batteries and the dual input wires on the esc can fit in an 8mm connector with a little finagling.My question is how critical is power input wire length?I can't imagine as critical as motor - esc wire length but how much wire between battery and esc is acceptable ?? Obviously as short as possible but with original battery leads (5") + adapter (3"- 4"??) + original esc leads (6") I will probably have close to 15".Only ~3" longer than using just original wiring but you gotta know I'm a little gunshy after this episode so any soothing confirmation that adding 3" - 4" of wire won't fry my new controller would be welcome.As well as any constructive opinions on what problems might arise with long battery - esc leads.If consensus is that I need to shorten up existing OEM wires to compensate (which I may have to do anyway to keep the wiring fairly clean in the hull ) I'm open to that as well but the adapter is almost a necessity so I can use the batteries in my helis and cars if need be without going 8mm everywhere

edit.You're right....motor died and fried the esc along with it.....totally my fault for pushing things way too hard

15" seems to me like a bit much, but definitely shorten ESC - Motor wires. Iwould reposition the ESC closer to motor and batteries. I don't like to run adapters due to introducing more connectors to the system = more things that can fail (corrosion).
