Whenever you think "nahhhhhh....it won't happen" is exactly when it will happen.
Had a big 30 class nitro heli. Had it at an idle with the rotor stopped, had the radio on a strap around my neck. Stepped towards the heli for a second and when I did I hit the throttle stick accidently. Rotor spooled up and caught my shin before I could shut it down or step back. Cut me clean to the shin bone with LOTS of blood. Learned my lesson.

Hey guys, just curious if with the current setup I have, what rpm should I be at and is that anywhere near where I need to be?

            Your setup rpms are, 1450kv * 22.2V = 32190rpm unloaded,
And that is good for sport running with that motor and good temps.
If you want more out of that motor you will need a high volt esc like this to run more volts,
            http://www.offshoreelectrics.com/pro...-seaking-130HV

Than if you go to 7s it's 1450 * 25.9v=37555rpm unloaded and hotter temps and less run time.
            Than 8s would be saw racing at 1450kv * 29.6v = 42920rpm unloaded,
And that would be for 2 minutes of running and could smoke the setup.
But with the wrong prop or if not trimmed out right you could smoke any setup.

One more question......the ESC has adjustable timing settings...it was at 15 but only got mid 40's....when I bumped up the timing to 22.5 I got high 50's on the 45C batteries. WHat would be a good timing setting and somewhat safe? There was NO increase in temps at all with the higher setting either

Need to know what make is that motor and if you have a link to post for it,
This way we can look at the specs on it.

TPPOWER is the make. Its the only 1450kv motor they make. Their website has probably 100 different motors. I found it ONCE after like 20 minutes of looking...haha, I'll try looking again for the exact section its under

that is a Y wind motor and they usually like more timing like around 15*
I have the 2100kv D wind and have my esc set to 15* and the motor does like it at that timing

if the motor is not getting hotter then it sounds like you have good timing for the motor...

If it was me I would try running it at 26.25* and do a 1 to 2 minute test run,
And see what the temps are and how it runs and than move down in timing and test again till you hit 11.25*.
Just something to learn from with the testing.
                          Outrunners like high timing to,
So you should test and time the runs to the second for good info on the temps.

Well, I've tried every possible adjustment with the current setup and I'm at a brick wall with this thing. I can't get it any faster without buying a new prop or some better high-end batteries, and I'm still not convinced that batteries are what's keeping me from going 70 like I was told. The shop is telling me that with my setup and prop, the math comes out to a 70mph boat. Even if I hit mid 60's I'd be happy and give those few extra mphs to the shop, but 10-12mph slower is kinda ridiculous to be making those claims and not be able to back them up.

So after MUCH disappointment and heartbreak with this massive 1450kv TPPOWER motor I got talked into buying and not getting ANYWHERE near the speeds I was expecting, I've decided to swap out motors and throw back in the Castle 1800kv motor. I haven't run it yet, but only hooking up batteries and throttling it up in my house, by sound alone, this thing is SCREAMING!!!!! I kinda can't wait to see what a difference it'll make(or how long it'll last before POOF(Im thinking the electronics should hold up as there have been guys running 2200kv motors with my ESC and never smoked anything).......Will keep you updated guys
