To all the people from non-english speaking countries.....sometimes I can't figure out (and I'm from Canada) what was said or how it was meant to be taken when talking to Americans/ Australians either,,,and we share a common language (more or less)

I know a few European FE boaters and they have shared setup info, though mostly on a pm basis.
Americans in general like to help each other and are willing to share their knowledge, especialy to newbies to help them avoid the mistakes they made.

That could be very interresting to make so that every well known FE boat forums from around the world put a section where members show their setup, that was one of the reason why I (a long time ago) PM to Steven with the idea of a sort of database, finally one would look into it find the same model as he owns, get the idea of what one have used to achieve xxx mph for xxx minutes...
What I'm sure is that if any of you guys start a thread in english on a french forum he will get an answer, few speak very good english
!... the main problem is to find the "New Thread" button
The "Know it all" attitude is also an important point, IMO it's not a question of attitude but more the way the answer is provided and the language that is used to provide it, let me try to share my (french) feeling on that one...
... I did PM to or got PM from some of you and always recieved an answer on a very respectuous form in a proper language without familiarities or acronysm, "cold feeling" then while in the same situation it would have been more friendly on a french forum... just my thought!
As you said Darin race rules are different in Europe so basicaly european expert don't need your help and may not have anything to share???

Coupled with the fact that people can respond INSTANTLY without thinking things through, and it can be taken the wrong way... and USUALLY, people seem to ASSUME it's attitude without stopping to consider that the person may have meant the LESSER of the two ways a response could be taken...
And... if someone DOES know what they are talking about, wouldn't you WANT them to post a response?? They may not "know-it-all", but perhaps they just really KNOW THIS...? Did you NOT ask the question in hopes of a helpful response??
As for European setups... If I'm not mistaken, Europe conducts their racing a little different than we do... with more emphasis on endurance as opposed to our sprint format... but I'm sure there are plenty around who would answer questions if you asked...
And Jay... I think there were beatings going on BOTH directions... There was certainly damage being inflicted from both sides of the pond... I seem to recall that there were "know-it-alls" living on both shorelines.... Any exchange between that is bound to wind up in a mess... Especially when you add the language barriers and lack of full communication being possible in a forum format... (typing, no eye contact, no voice influction, no facial expressions...)
Perhaps it's time for people to get rid of some of their harbored resentment and move on.
Personally, I've been somewhat reluctant to share too much of what I do and know simply because I got tired of the bashers using every opportunity to try to discredit me and pin the blame for their FE discontentment on my opinion... I'm still cautious, but somewhat over it and am happy to help if I think I can...
I'm always curious as to what the FE world is doing, and Europe seems to have some hull types and equipment that we don't have here... Would love to see more of this featured...Leave a comment:

For the most part, you do far better than those Americans educated by our sadly inept government-operated schools. I am appalled by how few Americans know the difference between "your" and "you're" or "there", "their", and "they're". I especially find it amusing when they tell about airplanes that go "strait up verticle."

This is where you might be able to help us. I am in Australia. I think some Americans would have had the same problem as me. I have 2 German boats and I have seached for and found websites in Europe about model boats. I would love to know how people set these boats up over in Europe but I can never find a site that is in English. Consider the fact you are 300 milion of citizen, how many are FE boat addict? 1 out of 100000?
Now consider France, let's say 1 out of 100000 out of 60 milion citizen that would be 600 FE boat addict in the country, how many out of those 600 can speak, read, or just understand half of what is being shared in this forum?
Not trying to laught at or blame anybody but... I am lucky, I love that language, I fall in when I've tryied to understand the darn OS35 glow engine english manual I had when I was 16, I work for an American company since '95, 've been around the word, mainly Europe, found a lot of difficulties to communicate 'cause not a lot of people speak a good technical english in Europe, on top of that you add those acronyms you love to use in those forums like IMO, BTW, PITA, WTF... how the hell do you want them to share anything in these conditions?
Also, and please don't be hurt by that, I found sometimes difficult to be understood by English or American people, just because you are not sensitive to the fact that we may not be able to speak a proper english!
BTW how many of you have ever visited some french or german FE boat. IMHO none!Leave a comment:
