Jay, Brian and Jim spent lots of time with the setup looking for that extra "oomph". It was the PT Stealth I was talking about.2008 NAMBA P-Mono & P-Offshore Nat'l 2-Lap Record Holder; '15 P-Cat, P-Ltd Cat 2-Lap

Tony, the OP is talking about a 60 mph boat, not a SAW racer. There are three Stealths in my club, none need feeler gauges to run competitively. Didn't want the OP to think the PTs needed tweaking by one of the fastest racers in the world in order to run decently. OTOH, for SAW hydros, feeler gauges are de rigeur.
BTW, there is no NAMBA class called P-Spec Hydro.

Wow, thanks for all the input guys, keep it coming! FYI, I have no intention of running the 1800kv or 2000kv on anything more than 4s, or building a boat around these, I was just posting what I have on hand. Also, not building around a 6s setup, as I believe I mentioned I have several 3s, 4s, and 6s batts, so unless I HAVE to run 5s, I pretty much have all the options I will need. If I run 6s I KNOW I need a motor, 1600kv max.
In a word(Dana), I have decided on a general boat size(pending what's out there based on input in this thread), speed+60, and intent is basically sport/race oval.
I got into boats in late Aug., now I have 5 of them with several upgrades, not afraid to spend to get what is appropriate. I will get a motor, and maybe another Hydra ICE 240 if necessary. Also have my eye on a 45" mono hull in the OSE shop that's collecting dust at the moment:)My private off road rc track

Thanks. I do(and will) utilize the search feature(you beat me to it), but the continuing dialogue is also helpful to me. Looks like this may be the boat I'm looking for, wondering what kind of chop it can handle..........(yes, I will read the threads, but input here is welcome also)Originally posted by Fluid View PostHere are some existing threads that a simple search pulled up:

We run the Q Sport Hydros in some pretty rough water - up to 3"+ chop and 15+ mph winds. They are far beter than the 30"-33" P Sport boats which can't run full throttle in the above conditions and finish a heat. We do prop down in rougher water but I am always surprised at how well they do run in rough water. Of course you can blow any boat off the water, but the advantage over the smaller boats is impressive.

Thanks, still not up to speed with the class names and specs/sizes yet(Q sport, P sport etc.) Lots of lingo to learn. Not sure if there's much racing going on up my way(Boston area), but I am a racer at heart. Even still, some of the most fun I have had with motocross, and now RC, is on the practice track trying to better myself, so far boats have given me this as well, even if there's no real race gong on.Originally posted by Fluid View PostWe run the Q Sport Hydros in some pretty rough water - up to 3"+ chop and 15+ mph winds. Q Sport Hydro - 6S hydroplane which "looks like" a full scale hydroplane. 40" maximum length of hull. Most run 36"-39".
P Sport Hydro - as above but 4S voltage. 34" maximum length of hull. Most are under 32".

Let me know if you want to get a SSP45 36 inch hydro. Lots of FE SSP45 are racing, the boats are setup for racing not just glass water so yea they handle some choppy waters. We been racing the nitro version for years and they finish 6 laps in some real crappy waters.Originally posted by kevinpratt823 View PostThanks. There are four in my club, all with 1527/1Y motors. The 1527/1.5D has proven too much for a sport hydro, it is better suited to a rigger. I run an Aeromarine Shadow, but it required some mods to run well. The AC Pro40 is a great hull too, but is seldom converted to FE - the hatch requires some work to seal up. The Whiplash 40 is also a great hull if you want to build from wood. There are several hull options and considering how "popular" this size hull is, we are lucky to have what we do.
