30"+ Hydros, options?

I have had fun with the UL-1, and I'm looking to continue in that direction with another boat. What are some good opions for building/buying an FE Hydro, say 30"plus, that will get up over 60mph at least? I will have 4 new 6s/5000mah/65c lipos to work with, planning to use those.

Do you mean 1/8? 1/18 is small.........

Edit: found them. I may not have the experience or patience for a kit like that yet. The most I want to get into at this point as far as "building" is starting with a bare hull.

If you intend to run 6s, you will probably want a boat over 34" long. You will have ample power and the larger hulls handle th epower and rough water much better than the smaller hulls. The 6S boats in my club vary from 36 - 39" long and run high-60s/low 70s in race water. The ML wood hull best suited for 6S is the 39" long GP400.

I would love to go bigger, 36"-39" is probably what I'm looking for from the sound of it, I want it to handle some weather. (I have plenty of 3s and 4s lipos as well to work with as well though if I went smaller) Are there any good options for a pre-built hull, I really should try my hand at building from a hull before I get into a full kit like this, still getting my feet wet with glasswork and all.

Thanx, that's kinda what I'm after. What size motors are guys running in these, the 30" versions and the 36"+ versions? I have a Leo 4082/2000kv and a 4074/1800kv ready to go, and a seaking 180, but I'm not opposed to buying something more apprpopriate if it be the case.

For a 36" hull I think those are both too small. I would sell them and get a Neu 1521

For 6s power with the Seaking 180 esc I would use Neu 1527 1y (1250kv). My Whiplash 40 Q sport hydro is very fast with that motor and Octura x455 (average amps pulled 140 with a spike of 193). I think the Neu 1527 1.5d (1500kv) would be faster, but may be too much for your seaking 180...not sure?

Don't know on the bigger hulls but on the Stealth(30") I run 4074 2200KV on 4s. I've also seen guys using the Neu 1515 1y.

A few bits to think about. To begin with : on 6S the 4082 2000KV is spinning 44,400 rpm, and the 4074 1800KV is spinning 39,960. Way too much unless you want to make 3 second runs and bring it in. Also, 6S packs are going to be a tight if not impossible fit in 30" hulls.

The PT, as has been recommended is a great boat, but if you check out their builds and runs, they are build-intensive and require carefull and somewhat constant fiddling with adjustments ( I just spent three days with a racer setting records with his, and his feeler guages and lead ballasts were in constant use.)

OTOH (and yes, I have a vested interest) the FE30 is ridiculously easy to rig, needs little or no fiddling, runs FAST and is built like a brick sh*thouse.

68.6 mph on 4S1P with a Neu15151Y (think Leo 4074), T-180 and M445. I race mine with 4S2P 4000's and a M545 and it rocks your socks

Building a boat around lipos and motors is kinda backwards. Firstly, decide what size boat, what your intentions are with it, and the speeds you want to achieve, then decide what motor and batteries you need for your desired goal.

The Phil Thomas SS45 is probably the easiest 'glass hull to get on the water, and they run awesome. They do not need feeler gauges and six months to set up. There are four in my club, all with 1527/1Y motors. The 1527/1.5D has proven too much for a sport hydro, it is better suited to a rigger. I run an Aeromarine Shadow, but it required some mods to run well. The AC Pro40 is a great hull too, but is seldom converted to FE - the hatch requires some work to seal up. The Whiplash 40 is also a great hull if you want to build from wood. There are several hull options and considering how "popular" this size hull is, we are lucky to have what we do.
