Is your FE Sport Hydro legal under the proposed IMPBA Rule Change?

I DON'T like the idea of driving a fence between a ‘nitro powered’ sport hydro design and an ‘FE powered’ sport hydro design... they are both still SPORT HYDROS regardless of power!!!!! Why should the FE rules be different than the Nitro rules...? The only thing that does is increase the distance of commonality in turn making everything about sport hydro’s more complicated.

For the record, I don’t think any manufacture has an ‘agenda’ in this rule change. As it’s already been pointed out many existing hulls will be obsolete so I am not sure where that theory came about.

Why not just say "Insane hulls are illegal"? Reading between the lines it sounds like they don't want nitro sport to look like the insane gas sport rigger. They see where gas sport is evolving and don't want that to happen to them too. That Dunlap boat is the most modified rigger looking thing I've seen.

Terry is right… The way I see it, this is a proactive rule to minimize the grey areas which have been exploited in other areas of the hobby. There is a large number of the membership that feels these exploited grey areas have gone outside of the intended ‘scope’ of the sport hydro class, and has disregarded the ‘spirit’ of the class.

Of the large number who don’t like the current rules… there were only a few that have made an attempt (using their own time and resources) to make a difference (hence submitting a rule change). Don’t completely beat them down when the purpose is to make things better. Sure it may need some tweaking, but it’s out there now. Remember, ultimately the membership decides via voting.

If you want to simplify the rules... there should be ONE set of Sport Hydro rules... The minor differences between the power systems could be easily accounted for (enclosed pipes, etc...)... People shouldn't have to wonder if their Nitro boat is going to be a legal hull for FE, and vice-versa...

Well, cant say i did not see this rule coming. The sport hydros, not all of them, but some of the new ones were getting out of controll with center section width. I have reviewed all of my ML Boatworks sport hydro sizes (5 in all) and all fit the rules of nitro and fe. And all will be very very competitive. Glad i didnt follow what everyone else was doing! My B I tch is that they should have checked for impact before hand. I don't think there's a lot of disgust with the current offerings. I believe this was intended to be a preventative measure. Like taking vitamin C before you get the cold. Once sport hydro gets sick it will be harder to treat.

You could argue that the FE rules got rid of most of the riggers with the 65% trans rule. With the exception of the Insane which is just sporty enough for me.

Haven't even put a boat in the water yet this year but am getting all the entertainment I need right here!!!

I blame IR for all the trouble....It was a b.s. idea to push it that far with the design......put a rigger in sheeps clothing and see what happens!!!!

Sean your right some good has come from it and I wasn't casting a stone at ya my friend. And guys I know the group that penned this proposal tried to look at all the current offerings, and I was told they went back and forth for several weeks.
They missed it by a bit but I'm not going to condemn anyone for stepping up to keep sport hydro's, sport hydro's. They have some more work to do, and I'm sure they will.

Terry there was allot discussion on the gas boards when boats like the Insane Mobster and Blazer Backlash came out. I think you are correct that the nitro guys don't have any problems with the current offering but possible they wanted to nip the bud before the trend hit the Sport 20's and 40's. Like you said, the current offerings should of been looked at. Hopefully they will get it right.

Nah, certainly not poking the scale guys. Just adding to the discussion regarding how many Sport Hydro variations our organizations have on the books. Include what is running in the Pac Northwest with their respective regional organizations and the list grows!

In case anyone was wondering, any discussion about Sport Hydro will be a passionate one! Doesn't matter if it's gas/nitro/FE/IMPBA/NAMBA.

Hi Doug - Here's my 2 page rule book:

The first page is the race flyer with the location, date and few simple notes about some general classes that will be run. The main event is "run what you brung". The second page is the food and drink menu for the gathering after the race. You all should try this - works great.

Sorry... I'll have to respectfully disagree there... Without rules and conformity checks... it's not racing... it's a fun-run that goes well with wine and cheese...

And that's fine... To each there own. There is room for all of us. Your individual/local clubs can decide how serious they want to be.

But... you certainly can't expect to attend a National event under such conditions. That's really what the rules are targeted towards. That, and to try to give clubs some guidelines so we CAN all come together under equal terms and have some fun...

If you are in the "fun-run" category, and your club is too, then you shouldn't care much what happens to the rules. Your club will do as it pleases anyhow.
