Water coming in from stuffing tube

I have a persistent problem with water coming in thru the stuffing tube at the collet end, tried every imaginable ways to seal it, to no avail.
I was looking at the windings of the cable, normal rotation cable should "push" water down the tube, if anything, it's like a screw, so after putting a tight silicone fuel tube how is it possible for water to just spin out from there, I can tell by the blue grease the water has splashed out. I get 2 oz. if not more water for every 2 min. ride. All my other boats don't have this problem. BTW, it is a Pursuit, not heavily moded, 0.25 inch brass stuffing tube, teflon liner and .150 Kintec flex cable, stinger. Teflon liner is not spinning, no abnormal operation.
Another thing: when I first got this boat, it didn't have any issues, but then I had to change a cable as the one came was no longer in good conditon. I got the replacement from Jan and it's beautifully made, I gave him the measurements and he custom made for me, with 2.25 inch shaft. I needed a shorter cable than his on the shelf pieces. Does shaft length have anything to do with it? Lost original cable after leaving it in the house ( family member trashing it) so i don't remember/know original shaft length.

Some heat shrink on the end of the shaft near on the stuffing tube to the collet maybe?

Thanks, tried that, thought it will conform better, no dice. As far as using tubing is concerned, I tried many ideas, too numerous to bore you guys here, just want to know is there a cure or this is one of those jinxed situation.

Well, ive found with my genesis, i actually got some loctite and put that about 2 inches down where the collet attaches, so it actually made the flex cable compleatly smooth. i think thats stopped the water from snaking up the driveshaft!

Some smooth the flex by sanding by hand to remove the high spots of the flex coil mainly to reduce friction in the stuffing tube but it also reduces the auger effect with the water going up the tube.

Thanks for the ideas, I am just really puzzled since the cable is turn left ( view from looking at the transom), so the direction of the winding is ( Spiralling down) pushing down the stuffing tube, how can water auger up the tube?

answer; the cable you got from Jan is smaller than the original cable in diameter. I'd find a liner that is smaller than you have there and slide it down the stuffing tube to the transon and glue it to the liner already in place. Make it about 3/4" long. Ok, if you can't find a liner small enough cut a piece of liner and slice lenght wise till smaller than the one in place, match edges and glue to original. There another way to, dry the area needed and leave cable in place. Put GOOP around cable and let dry. Some put a dab of oil on cable so GOOP won't stick. Forgot, the dog drive maybe bigger than shaft and can force water up the stuffing tube. Now to correct this is to file the front edge of dog so its rouned enought so water will flow past the dog.

I had this with a cat once. Spend some time studing the other end(by the prop). You can look at putting shrink wrap on the stuffing tube where it feeds into the strut so the water is not "pushed" into the shaft. Also, if this was one of the stingers that came with a washer where the drive dog pushes up against the stinger with a two piece shaft, then you also need to look at that. These are long shots, but I did solve my particular problem with the shrink wrap. Good Luck.

Electric, I put a big silicone tube around the exit of the stuffing tube so when I put the stinger on, the hollow space behind the bushing of the stinger is sealed tight, even that did n't do anything. Are the stingers different between one piece shaft and two piece shaft? That is one thing I am completely ignorant of. I got the boat with one piece, never saw a two piece shaft.
I also thought what Fred said, Jan's cable is smaller than original, but my fuel tube at collet end is very tight, Instead of using ziptie which pinched the tube I used another tube from general warehouse which has 1/4 inner dia. to collar the fuel tube, it's a great snug fit though.

The kintec pursuit upgrade flex cable IS the same dia as the stock cable,3/16.Mine has the stinger instead of the strut.The kintec requires only to be cut to proper length.You can use the stock liner.The pursuit is notorious for leaks in this area!What i have found to cure this is,i take a hobby syringe filled with speed grease and inject it into the teflon liner.Install the flex cable holding ur finger over the liner hole so no grease comes out while ur pushing the flex cable up.Wipe the grease off the cable end before its installed in the collet.This method works great for me.I also have a piece of water tubing gripped around the brass stuffing tube and the liner itself to stop water there.When you think you have enough grease in that liner,add more!

My Pursuit was changed from 3/16 cable to .150 cable, the stuffing tube was also changed to 1/4 dia. to accomodate this change. Jan sells .150 cable version so i assume this is done by other boaters.

I was just about to post this same question. My hull is a EKOS tho.

One tube will drip just sitting there. When running at full throttle it will fling around the inside of the hull.
I have the wht washer behind the dog and I was using 3 n 1 oil to lube it.

I will try grease nxt time to see if that helps.

Yeah,there are many versions of this boat,my only expierience is with the Kintec version.
