I hate to say this guys but since racing has been around the reason for racing is to go faster at any means, That my friends is how a standard is set to see where the limit is and also to push the limit to handle the power by modiyfing boat,car ,truck etc. The other reason is alot of people who do not race in clubs do not have the money to buy cc. esc and or motors futaba jr etc. we as being one of them, look for the cheapest and best bang for the buck.. And also just think back when in the 1980s fe boat was only 35mph, I dont know what class it was but it was the record holder .deep vee [ kinetic is selling the hull right now],proboat is putting out rtr right now between 35&40mph right out of the box.One more note I never run my fe boats in a water way where people are swimming there is tooooo much water in ohio I would just find another place .And if men would of stopped dreaming of going fast this hobby would not even be where it is today! Just my opinon.

Aside from Darrin,Willie and a few others sawing their way to posterity, little N racing is showing up at venues. P Q and T are all we require IMO for now.

I run 8s in my Sprintcat .40, its not a power thing 8s1p is only the same energy as P class 4s2p and as I race for 6 minutes +10 second mill I have less power than P never mind Q, it has however enabled me to run a $45 ESC for the last 3 years with no issues.

In a quest for lower amp draws and cooler more efficient equipment my local racing body did away with the voltage classes a couple of years ago, so all classes are 10s max and the energy levels are maintained by cell weight 110g for minis, 280g for the old 2 cell class, and 560g for what was 4 cells. Worldwide Naviga have allowed 2/3s and 4-6s to the old 2s and 4s classes with energy levels maintained by the same 120g/280g/560g weight limit. Personally I was against it, but it has happened and seems to be working well.

I've been struggling with this for a while. I think I may have figured it with us talking about it.

It's probably partly because I'm a racing NAMBA slappy. I support any kind of boating but I want people to race. By encouraging guys to up the voltage we are in affect perpetuating the divide between sport boaters and racers. What do you do with a Titan 40 running 6s2P? Can't really be successful racing it. How about a 6s Geico. Runs fine. Low amp and all. Can't really race it.

Just flapping my fingers guys. Don't get frustrated with me.

Why can't you race it? Nobody says it must be faster because it 's 6s. It will certainly run more efficiently though.

I started a thread on the whole 6s obsession thing a little while back, like Jay mentioned 6s does have it's place and is awesome for lower amp draw and extended runtime (if done properly), problem is most new guys grab a high KV motor and slap 6s in to which is just crazy. Like Darin also mentioned new guys don't want to experiment with props or strut adjustment at all. That's the fun for me, tinkering around to get it running as best as I know how. I recently find myself really liking 5s setups, just me. Typically less amp draw then 4s setups and not as $$$ as 6s setups i don't run my esc's at max voltage, so 6s is a HV esc for me and we all no how expensive they get. Happy medium in my world. Plus I just sport boat, so runtime is more important to me then speed. It's no fun recovering a boat every minute cause it flips. JMHO.

I didn't mean it was faster necessarily. Although it "could" be if you put that "for giggles" prop on that Jay mentioned. I meant that at 6s it's in a different class. You can put that efficient setup in a small boat but it gets to run with the big dogs.....or cats.

Example, a 6s Geico at 29" or what ever it is would compete against a pack 40" boats once you throw 6s in there. Those can run mid 60's through 6" of chop. Again, those sizes really did come from somewhere.

After the Geico stuffs we'll retrieve what we can find of it. I suppose you could reinforce the b'geezus out of it so it would survive at least but it will be upside down after about 3 laps. Then it's a buoy. Are you still racing it?

I've been selling and pushing 6s for a long time. Its much better than 4s for sport boating.

This is why I love the "Open Classes"...run what you brung....you'll figure out what you can and can't do really quickly!
