Absolutely agree w/ your high voltage low kv concept, I do it on some of my boats, but unfortunately, and I think Dale hit it right on the head, the car guys are coming in thinking the same concept applies to their boats. What they arent understanding which, like Fluid, Im tired of telling them and have given up, spinning wheels takes a lot less amperage than spinning the props they are trying to spin. Im no Hydrodynamics engineer, but its obvious and common sense will tell you that it takes more effort to spin a prop than it does to spin a tire. Ive tried till my fingers bleed to tell them they are asking for trouble, but again, they all seem to think they are the best and know it all because they have boats that do an assumed 80mph....
In all honesty as morbid as it seems it can be fun to watch - me and Ken where taking bets on when it would happen - like I said we tried to talk sence ito our fellow boater but sometimes stupidity takes over and thats when some real entertainment happens............................

I think that leads to the believe that they know what they are doing. I am much more impressed with a boat that can run 55/60+ wot and run on rails with some what decent runtime then I am with a boat running 80+ in 3 second burst because the hull/setup can't handle that speed for more then a few seconds. Just me....
It's only a matter of time until or newer friends burn up 2 or 3 esc's when the light bulb will go off, that maybe there setup is not the best.
Newbie question??? How do you get a 37" cat to go 75-80mph reliable??? I don't race. I just want the WOW factor. Tell me how to do it!!!! Lower kv's w/ large batts right. Spin a larger prop. Correct!!!
If someone was to get seriously hurt by the batteries by pluging them in wrong they can sue the battery company and out of that there will be some kind of safety requirement that the battery people are going to have to make to their products. It is better to be proactive than reactive. imo.
So you are going to sue the battery company for your own carelessness - you as a boater assume the risks - Its really not that hard to be aware of what you are doing and if you can't take up something safer like basket weaving or pottery .

Being proactive would be use a connector that YOU are comfortable with! If you feel your will short the battery and cause a issuse using bullets then don't use them, use a different connector and you want risk shorting the battery to itself. You don't need to sue, you don't need a fuse or anything else. Use a connector that won't allow it to short to itself and the problem/risk is solved!

kv is to high 6s. that is more of a 4s and 5s motor. Your reaching close to 40k unloaded, target goal is upper 20k to lower 40k.
Ill side w/ Diesel here. I agree its a bit too high an rpm especially for 5 min. Shorten your run times a bit and you may be okay?, but I wouldnt think its what youd consider a "reliable" set up.
I run a twin cat on 6S w/ 1600kv castles, (1520s) and will run it no more than 2 minutes at WOT.
FLUID will be a good one to chime in here as he is the SAW guy.
EDIT: and I sharpened my Octura prop too much and cut myself, so Im going after Octura, X-acto for making the files I used and Craftsman because i was using their wrench when I did it....
Thanks for the reply. So to keep it in the proper range of rpm's. What would you do for speed w/o going to lower kv's and huge batt packs? Is there another way??

But really, in all Ive learned on here, keeping it in the proper rpm range is important, as is not overloading w/ too large a prop etc. But it does seem the most reliable way to get speed is low KV high voltage. Lots of tuning and even more listening to what the SAW guys have to say. They build boats to do one thing, go fast. And like others, a lot want their equipment to last as long as possible...
