Bending Pushrod

Any tips for bending the pushrod, I dont want to snap it so thought id ask before i clamp it in a vice and get the mole-grips on it!

Use the vice and good pliers. If the wire you are using is music wire (high carbon), it has quite a bit of spring to it. Be cautious and wear eye protection.

I made something similar to this, drilled 2 holes in a piece of steel and JB welded pieces of a broken drill bit shank in. Decided afterwards I shouldn't have glued one pin, could have drilled more holes. Mine will work with a 4-40 pushrod max because I glued the pins so close together.

If it's 4-40, just bend it. Use your hands, abd a vise if you have one. I've yet to break one, but I'm sure it's possible.

That's awesome! Bit pricey just to bend two bits of wire but I like having tools for every occasion so I may just splash out

Anyone know whats being used for the hardened wire?

With FE boats, I use stainless steel wire VS music wire. Both can be easily bent using a micro torch until red hot, then bend with needle nosed pliers. The wire will be softer, but will work fine for most FE applications. If you need stiffer wire - as in a HUGE rudder - just heat it to red hot at the bend and quench it in oil. I have a Z bend tool, but I love to play with fire. JIM
