Yup, with a higher KV motor (listen to it's sound) than usually found in a sprint boat. The Snowman does what it takes to win !

how was the computer (i think it was anyway) tracking the boat laps?

They have a laptop setup for the CD that has a software package, complete with a clock and 7 triggers. In addition to a pitman, each driver has a "Drivers Judge" who watches the boat for any fouls (lane infractions, cut buoys, etc) and clicks away laps.

It's labor intensive and there's a bit of a learning curve with it, but once you get "judges" comfortable w/the system, it works good.

I wonder what kv? Cheaper Chinese or American made? Was it a Neu 1527/1D 2300kv or a 1518 1.5d 2340kv?

I noticed the sound right after the start of the race. but I thought it was one of his wicked props making that noise.

Brian can confirm, but I think he was running the Castle/Nue 1515 1Y. If I'm right, that's why his is sounding louder than others. Most run the 1521 1.5D, which doesn't spin as fast. Well, I say most. I wouldn't be surprised if Mark had a 1527 1D in his boat!

Also, don't forget that different props, or even the same prop, with different prep, will sound different as well. And, I can assure you, Brian's props were "different"!! They always are!!

I'll take the high road here and say that, out of respect, it would be proper to let Brian and Mark disclose which motor they were running if they choose to do so. I will say this, that Brians boat was faster than the competition, but it was his driving skill which kept it under control in the perilous gasserwater as evidenced in the video. Knowing when and where to go-or-slow is the strategy that finishes races.

Today was another good day. Lots of P-Mono action; 4 rounds of 2 FE heats each. Gasserwater has lots of currents, eddies & holes & creates some surprising invisible obstacles Some good vid action here by Questtek Joe. Four rounds / two heats of P-Mono. Brian ripped it up with his Delta Force 33. Hard to race when almost every boat was white & after the start you end up having a hard time telling which boat you're piloting in the first turn until the pack untangles on the back straight. I torpedoed in a hole, came up & got back on the course and nearly nailed Brian; had to do a penalty lap & was looking good until halfway into lap seven when the chute deployed. Turns out when I stuffed, the water lines hit the prop & I lost cooling so a motor wire unsoldered after 6 1/2 laps from the heat. Fixed it and luckily all systems were go again for the next heat.

All in all a great day. David Newland won the class, Brian took second, and local SoCal FE Naveed took third with his Arowana. [ Go Socal FE ]

FE did a great job of keeping up the pace, and it was gratifying to be as welcome as we were by the IC crowd. David and I will do a full write-up of the entire FE experience for the next issue of NAMBA propwash. Enjoy the vid :

One of the closest finishes I have ever heard of happened today at the NAMBA Nationals in the GX1 rigger class. Brian Buaas and Alan Terry tied on points after 4 heats. They raced each other twice and each one beat the other once. The difference in best times was .2 seconds, and Alan's fast time was a new NAMBA heat race record for the first place win. The racing was even more impressive when you consider that neither had any easy heats where they were the only fast boat. Congratulations to both racers for some of the best racing you will ever see.

In P mono I ran a CC/Neu 1515/1Y and Hydra Ice 240. Paralleled GrimRacer 5000mah 4S packs. The prop was something experimental.

We should also all congratulate Lohring Miller for being the latest inductee to the NAMBA Hall of Fame.

Castle has really jacked up the price of their chinese made CC/Neu 1515 1Y. One of these will now cost you $255.00 from Tower (talk about inflation)
