    2011 NAMBA {not FE} Nationals

Today was open water practice day at Legg Lake, home of the 40th annual NAMBA Nationals ( and charmingly enough, home of the very first NAMBA Nationals forty years ago).
Huge turnout from all over the USA , Hawaii, Australia & such. 116 + racers, many hundreds of boats, and, wait for it........2 FE "Exibition" Classes ; P-Limited Sport Hydro with 13 entries, and P-Mono with 9 entries The race runs for a full 8 days, with all kinds of fun events after the day's racing.

I've met many folks who'se names I've only read about and what nice guys ! I pitted next to a really friendly gent with lots of tunnels. Turns out it's none other than Jerry Dunlap. Eric Bourlet as well.

David Newland, the NAMBA National FE Chairman and a good buddy helped me dial in my Insane P-Mono ( after giving it the famous "Arizona Launch" which bounced the rudder off the bottom (shades of WW VII ) but once the shear bolt was replaced it went where I told it to go

A familiar face in an orange Futaba shirt and his perennial straw hat showed everyone how a P-Limited Sport Hydro should run; he did however decline my offer to take him skydiving tonight after I pack his chute.

Some quick shots of some of the pits and driver's stand during open water. More tomorrow; hope to have some FE heats on vid.

Looks like a great time, Tony. I'm hoping to run in Evansville, IN this summer. I ran in IL last year in the IMPBA Dist 6 and got to meet and hang out with Phil Thomas as well as numerous others. What a blast. Post more pics Tony, I'm getting motivated. Looking forward to a video.

Finally...a new tread that is interesting. Please post video (P-Limited Sport Hydro) if possible. And some close up spy shots of Snowman's boats.

While you’re out there, keep an eye on a gentleman by the name of Stu Barr. He is from the Indianapolis, in area and is the owner/builder of Crapshooter Boats.... And let me tell you, he can make his nitro boats sing!!!!

          Later,
          Mike

OK !! Finally a vid of a round of P-Ltd Sport Hydro. It turned into an obstacle course with dead boats ( Brian's in turn 2 which I did not DARE hit) and other boats belly up from the churned up gasserwater, and a damn drifting course marker ballon which I kept nailing . Roger's Team Insane Red/Black FE 30 was rolling hard on my tail while I looked like I had the win (mine is the green/black FE 30), but I choked in the last turn and first went far too wide, then bobbled getting back in lane, nailed a drifting ballon AGAIN as we drag raced to the finish line and Roger nosed me out for the win. All in all, it was the most fun race & Roger & I just had huge grins after it was all over. Roger won the class today and got the customary dunking, Ted took second with his Team Insane prepped FE 30. New guys Steven and Mike, had issues, as did Naveed but did great for their first day's racing. Mr. Newland had some issues, but rocked, as did Mark & Steve L., and Brian's little red boat was usually in front until gremlins got him.

Tomorrow is 4 rounds of P-Mono. Stay tuned

Had a lot of fun today (and some frustrating moments).

Didn't test enough in open water, found out the hard way I couldn't run the same prop I usually run at home where the air and water are 20 degrees cooler. Burnt a motor in the second round. Dave Newland loaned me a motor (thanks Dave, I owe you one).

I got greedy trying to get inside Roger to make up some points in the third round (video). Had time and should have been more patient.

Did manage fast time at 1:34 and had a great couple laps with Dave N. in the fourth round.

                P mono tomorrow.

Kind of like when Rubens Barrichello let Michael Schumacher take over first place during the last lap of the 2002 Austrian F1 Grand Prix. It was no biggie and Roger deserved the win

You almost had it even with the wide turn and hit the buoy.

I shouldn't have waited till wed to decide and paint miss Vegas. Put the hardware and motor in sat morning and hand didn't test anything. Some how got a 3rd place ribbon for heat one, the only one I actually finished. Fourth heat was a lot of fun but a bullet connector came off of my motor and that was the end.
Tony gave away the win for sure. There was a duck on the shore over there he wanted to get a closer look at or something.
