bullets getting hott!

The ones with the shorter surface area on them are Part # AM-1005
The ones with part number KG55001 have the larger surface area.

I had ordered one bag of each and this is what I found out.

Carl, right you are, thanks. I ordered the AM 1005's, BUT the picture on the HK site shows them with the full length connector tangs. Just wrote HK to see what they'll do about it. Funny thing, the description of the 10-pair pak of AM 1005 says 80g ; weighs 49g on my scale.

The KG 55001 description says 59g; wonder what they actually weigh.

I'm making a big deal of this clusterf*^k because I do run some AMPS through my race setups so I think it's worth the effort to have the best possible connectors (without spending unneccessary $$)

the others will get used on other projects in the future.

I also got some of their 6 and 8mm bullets and they seem very nice.

5.5s have been working for me. I got some venom ones that look like the shorter contact area ones you got from HK. Bet venom just gets those then puts them in little 3 packs and mark em up.

If you oil your connectors, make sure the oil is not flammable, even a small spark while plugging in can light lipo connectors on fire, and we all know what that will turn into.

You got that right ! Good call I Corrosion-X'd a Hydra 240 that got wet; still has some un-evaporated X on it; plugged in the batts; spark; another charbroiled Hydra 240 to add to my collection

Oil is the last thing you want to add to make a connection better. Most oils are better insulators, with high dielectric strength, then conductors. Dont contaminate a connection. Clearance and mating surfaces cause enough problems. Dont add to them.

KEEP YOUR CONNECTORS CLEAN! AND CLEAN THEM OFTEN WHEN FREQUENTLY DISASSEMBLING SYSTEMS. A little alcohol and a q-tip make a big difference. Do not lubricate! Clean bullets are the key to reducing failures related to connectivity. Remember. Its all about circuit resistance. If mating the bullets together is an issue, take the time to size them to fit properly.

8mm is extreme overkill in my opinon. I only use 8mm when I need to get the double wires on a castle HV into a connector. Otherwise 5.5 and 6 hold up just fine even on my 8s 1/8 scale. I run 5000 or larger packs exclusively.

The secret is to not over prop!!!

Now if you're running SAW's, maybe.

Jim, you use 5.5 and 6's, but 8 is extreme overkill? 2mm larger (about the size of the letter o' on this page) isn't overkill. If your connectors are hot (not the wires), they are too small. Simple. And Tony, 8mm would solve your incompatibility problems with those 5.5's as well!

NO, that prop should be ok for that Leopard. Were you hole shooting, sport racing, running wet, do you have good water circulation? And who the heck would put 4mm bullets on a 1500++ watt motor?

That prop should not be too much. Something else is causing you to run hot. The dummy manufacturers put those 4mm connectors on the motors. DOH

I'm not saying there is anything WRONG with 8mm connectors, just completely unnecessary unless you are running EXTREME amp draws. If you were to run a poll of how many people are using them you would probably find not many. You are more than welcome to use whatever you want but trying to get people to switch just doesn't make a lot of sense when 5.5-6.0 work fine in 99% of the cases. JMHO
