I was with you up until this point but now I'm confused are these the same as the HiModel units just with better cooling? If so I'm in, but HiModel spec the opto version as 3-7s and the BEC version 4-8s, whereas you spec the opto version as 2-7s and have no different specs for the BEC version, if they are both 2-7s I would get the BEC version $4 is very cheap for a BEC of that capability but it would not be a cooling upgrade for the HiModel gx200BEC I am using in my 8s supercat, but it would be a good upgrade for the Hydra 240 I have for my 2s rigger.

      I bought 3 of these:
      http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...dProduct=14500

      From HobbyKing
      $29
Looks like the same thing if you ignore the shrink wrap.
I test ran one on the bench and it worked ok.

I cut off the shrink wrap to see whats inside.
First, the heat sink was only touching 2 out of 18 FET's -- a VERY POOR fit.
Also, there are 3 circuit boards with 18 FET's each - they are stacked on top of each other then the heatsink is stacked on top. This means that heat from the first layer of FET's has to pass to the second layer and heat from the second layer has to pass to the third layer and heat from the third layer passes to the poorly fit heatsink.
This IMO is a very poor cooling scheme. But it only costs $29.

The one I took apart looks exactly like the one in fightercat's picture.

I will build a watercooled heatsink this winter and test in the spring. The water is frozen solid this time of the year here.

Good luck getting real answers from Suppo. You should see some of the 50+ emails I've traded with them, just trying to place an order.

According to Suppo, none of them are rated for 8s, even the HiModel models. I have some of those. Factory says 2-7s. Try your 4-8s BEC ESC on 2s. I bet it your works too...

According to Suppo, "30vdc, good for 8s. "
I'd say 7. But go ahead.

Hobby King is subsidized by the Chinese government and forces these little factories to sell to them below their actual cost mafia style. So yeah, order that ESC from the factory, it is 38$ plus transaction fees and shipping. Minimum 20.

In order to get the copper plates installed, there is extra $$. If you want to unsolder all three layers of FET boards, add copper plates and re-solder them, go ahead, saver your $10 and go to it.

Honestly- All the time and work I've put into this, to get slammed over a few bucks in cost and some arbitrary specs...

It isn't worth my time or aggravation.

          Figure it out for yourselves.

          I'm done with this.

            FighterCat:
Oh! Sorry, I didnt mean to knock your Idea!
I ordered 3 of them on speculation that they could be easily water cooled and was a little disappointed that you couldnt get at all the FETs.

Cooling from the sides on 3 levels is FAR BETTER than the factory cooling scheme.
Yes, I thought about seperating the circuit boards, but that looks near impossable.

Water cooling is a great "value adder" and would be worth the price incerase, for sure.!!!

For the 3 I bought, I think I'll just replace the factory heat sink with a water cooled one and see how long they last.

Actually, 40 bucks is real good. I bought a himodel for 59, a cooling plate for 13, 3M DP270 potting compound for 10, and Artic Silver for another 10 plus my time. Sorry to hear, it looks like you put a lot of time and legwork into this.

The capacitors on mine are rated for 35 volts.
The FET's are "FDD8896" and it looks like the max voltage is 30 volts.
                6S = about 22 to 25 volts
                7S = about 26 to 29 volts

So it looks like mine are 6S easily and 7S if you run them close to the limit.

What if a person built a water cooled, "U" shapped, block of aluminum that contacted the top area (where the factory heatsink is) AND the sides. Then pot the whole thing in the thermal epoxy?

Don't slow down, FighterCat, go for it!

Easy tiger, you are reading me the wrong way. I am not slamming you over specs just trying to ascertain what the specs are as a previous supplier specs them differently.

I like what you are doing with plates in between each board, I tried to do it myself (I have had other multiboard ESCs in the past that will separate enough to get a plate in), but as you say you have to unsolder each board to do so, and I dont have the kohonas to do that, replacing the power wires is about as far as I go with ESC soldering and even that makes me nervous.

I was/am interested in buying one depending whether you have gone off the idea or not, I like the HiModel ones even with my cooling of just the top layer, I really don't even care too much about the specs, now I'm using the GX200Bec on 8s with good success and reasonable temperatures just you saying its the same controller is enough I've seen the datasheet fot the FETSs and I know I am over their rated voltage at least off load, how can the same ESC with better cooling do worse whatever the paper specs are?

Thanks for saying that it probably works on 2s, I will try that out tomorrow and if they do work I will go to exclusively using these various suppo 200 ESCs for oval and Keep my Hydra 240s for SAWS, I think I may get flamed for saying this but for my normal uses they are better than Hydra 240s.

I thought your pricing was very good, the same as HiModel even with the copper, and at least for those in the USofA much cheaper once you deduct the international postage. probably a little more for me here in the UK but I would be more than happy to pay extra for the copper.

the Suppo that i got from Ben is a pretty nice unit.
All I have been able to do right now is bench run the thing till I amblue in the face.
I have set it up for all sorts of various motors and the thing (Like Timex, takes a licking and keeps on ticking).

I am very glad that he has been able to take the time and $$ to venture into the realm and I am sure that he will do an excellent job of it.
IF HE DOESN'T, HE WILL HAVE TO BABY SIT MY WIFES GREAT NIECE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
                    HAHAHAHAHAHAHA

(that, I wouldn't wish on ANYONE!!!!!)

While interesting speculation, the reality is that the HobbyKing web site is totally BLOCKED inside China. You just cannot get into the site while using e-mail or the internet within China. Go Figure!

I started this thread just to let guys know that Himodel dropped their prices on this popular ESC. Many people have had great success with this low cost ESC. FighterCat was adding value to this ESC by doing a lot of the work we would normally have to do, for us. I didn't mean for it to go the route that it did. FighterCat, keep offering your ESC's as they do offer a substantial value. Don't be dissuaded. It's seems to me that your product is more than reasonably priced and you shouldn't feel obligated to defend the claims of the manufacturer as these have proven themselves to be a low cost alternative to the more expensive ESC's. I look at it like this...If you are going to the grocery store, which is better a Toyota Corolla or a Mercedes C class? Who cares as long as it gets you there and back reliably.

Dom, I agree and I have maybe 100 bucks in mine without the interior cooling plates, I will jump on a 60 % sale any time. Fighter Cat, you have 2 now rawsonreyes and me, only need 8 more for your required 10. Keep up the good work!

Thanks Dom & everyone with positive feedback.

I talked with the manufacturer tonight and CHANGED the order to the BEC model. It will ship within the week, so order now.

They let me split the order, so there will be 10 125a w/BEC and 10 200a w/BEC.

Again, order now. I need to sell out of them to cover the cost. If they do well, we'll setup a larger order later.

I've also reduced the shipping to a flat $1.50 per ESC. (International, I'll Invoice actual shipping, either FCM or USPS Priority, your choice)
