OSE Neu Motor Survey

OSE will start stocking the Neu line of motors.
Darin was nice enough to take the time to email me the following suggestions.

1506 1.5D 6800KV => N2-Rigger
1506 1Y 5500KV => N2-Sport (light)
1506 2D 5200KV => N2-Sport

1509 1D 6700KV => N2-Rigger (almost TOO hot though)
1509 1.5D 4500KV => N2-Sport/Mono (AWESOME, need to keep boat light though)
1509 1Y 3600KV => N2-Sport/Mono

1512 1D 4875KV => N2-Rigger (all out, V-series props... FREAKING FAST!!)
1512 1.5D 3200KV => Might be useful for 3S... perfect for O-Mono... TOO hot for 4S...

1515 1D 4100KV => N2 Sport/Mono (2S2P)
1515 1.5D 2700KV => P-Sport (a little hot), P-Hydro... Better choice for 3S than 4S...
1515 1Y 2200KV => PERFECT P-Sport or P-Mono on 4S2P... 33" Delta Force Rocks with this...

1521 1.5D 1860KV => ROCKS in P-Sport and P-Mono on 4S2P (This is what Brian and Greg are using in P-Mono with 33" Delta Force hulls... Might be better with a 36" hull...)

1527 1D 2160KV => BIG time P-Sport hull (36"+) or large P-Mono...

1527 1.5Y 850KV => 1/8th Scale hull on 10S...

If anyone else has some experience they would like to input please let me know?

I had no idea Darin knew so much about these motors, but what he has said here pretty much follows exactly what I was told from both Fluid, D. Smock as well as Casey.

Thanks for doing this Steven, another place to buy these great motors. I know you are probably not at this point yet, but there lipo batteries are pretty darn good as well. If you go the lipo route at the store you may want to consider those as well

Hmm I wonder if I can apply for welfare to support my boats? We all get 5 years correct? I imagine I will pick up a 1521 1.5D for the Jolly with one good snow storm this winter. That's WAY too hot for 4S in anything but a Rigger... You'd be looking something like 44,000 RPM...

It would handle it, but the boat would be undrivable... we've already tried it!

Same with the 1527... Those motors have SOOOOO much power, you'll need a 36"+ hull on 4S to even begin to use it...

For most people... a 1515 1Y would be MORE motor than they can handle in a 33" Delta Force... It's REALLY fast... You can't just go by KV on these motors... If you try to do that based on what you know about Nemesis, Hacker, etc... you'll be off...

For all out racing, I'd use the target ranges as follows:

Mono => 25,000-35,000 RPM
Sport Hydro => 30,000-35,000 RPM
Hydro => 35,000-40,000

I think these are simliar to what Jay has posted in the past...

I usually aim for the upper end of these... And, frankly, or small monos and sport hydros use the same motors...

For sport running, you WILL NOT like the upper end motor KVs... You'll run warm and for a short period of time... pick your motors accordingly...

It is entirely possible to pick TOO BIG of a motor... for example... the 33" Delta Force with a 1527 in it is all but undrivable... WAY too much torque for most hulls... The 1521 can be made to work, but takes a hell of a driver and a really good setup... the 1515 is more forgiving, VERY fast, and doesn't get too hot if everything is done correctly... But even that is for all out racing... Again, pick accordingly...

I think you may be on track... Seeing them in person this weekend, I'd say something that you'd use for Nitro .67 motors would be about right... I think the .40's would be too small... the .90s too big... though they could be made to work if light... The .67 sized nitro riggers seem about right...
